I have taken 13 .5mg avodart capsules over the span of 24 days. Now I'm considering stopping it. How long should it take to get out of my body?

It will take a while for Dutasteride to leave your body since the medication has a half-life of five weeks, and even traces of it could be found in the blood up to six months after discontinuing the treatment.

sheraz1392, would you like to tell why you're considering on stopping Dutasteride please? :tellme:

Yes I would also like to hear on why you're quitting Dutasteride.

I know that with only Propecia 1mg ED side effects weren't that bad, but now with Dutasteride EOD along with propecia the main side effects that are bothering me the most is lethargy, always tired. It's affecting my weight lifting routine, it pisses me off a lot, since the gym is my 2nd home. But I'm still gonna stick with it, I'm 2 months in and I think it's too early to quit.
The lower sex drive is less bothering me, everything can still work when needed but morning wood and random wood is gone.

I was on Finasteride before and has experienced an extreme case of painful sebhorrheic dermatitis during the 27 month period I was on finasteride. My SD is unresponsive to any kind of medical treatment. I switched to dutasteride to see if my condition changes. It's been the same. I'm not 100% sure if it's the 5ARs giving me SD or it's just co-incidental that my SD started the same time as I started finasteride. I've decided to take a break for a couple of months from 5ARs and then evaluate my condition.

I read a couple of posts here from bryan that the half-life that you have stated is applicable when dutasteride levels have reached steady state in the blood serum which takes a couple of months of daily dosing.

I also experienced lethargy the day after I popped my first cap. I remained lethargic for a few days(2-3) but then it subsided.

As a general rule of thumb for most drugs, in the pharmacy I worked at and in most pharmacological circles, we like to say 5 half-lives is a decent estimate of elimination (~97% of the drug is eliminated), with 7 being more absolute (~99% of the drug is eliminated after 7 half-lives).

5 * 5 weeks: 25 weeks or 6 months 1 week

7 * 5 weeks: 35 weeks or 8 months 3 weeks.

Either way you're looking at over half a year to clear dutasteride from the body. It's definitely something you need to carefully consider before you embark on adding it to your regimen.

Don't be too alarmed though, dutasteride takes about 4 weeks of daily 0.5mg dosing to reach 90% serum DHT inhibition. This also doesn't mean that it will take this long for side effects to subside as dutasteride, as with all drugs, will only inhibit 5AR significantly at a certain concentration, consult the dose response curve for this value, its about ~10% serum DHT inhibition at 0.01 mg and ~50% at 0.05 mg.

Alright, that's neat. Can you please provide those posts from Bryan and studies about Dutasteride? I'm interested to take a look at them.

6 months of daily 0.5 mg dosing to reach 40 ng/mL (which is Css, steady state serum concentration)

I'm really curious as to whether OP or anyone else actually bothers reading the package inserts that come with their medication, surely I can't be the only one.

Did you quit Dutasteride? How long before you noticed a difference?
Yes, I quit it. I wasn't able to know the elimination duration as I started Finasteride after dutasteride cessation. The rule is five half lives.
