Hey all, I was just wondering if I could ask a quick question. How long do you have to wait until it is safe to not worry about new grafts from popping out? I know stuff like pressure to the head or heavy gym work may lead to newly implanted grafts popping out. From my research it is around 4 weeks until the grafts are secure and not able to pop out but I'd like to get a better opinion.

Thanks.

In 8 days they are secure. do not work out at all. do light workouts after 8 days, but don't stress the donor sight. in 48 hours you may wash your hair by lightly pouring water on it and making lather in your hands and putting the lather on the hair lightly. you have no common sense if you have been working out since day 1. you only have so much donor hair.

Thanks for the advice college.. But I don't know... 8 days seems a bit short to me... i read somewhere 4-8 weeks and then its 100% secure...

I'm going to have my second strip procedure in about a week. My first procedure was a year ago when I got a small 200 grafts to my left side temples and front of my head. I'm getting another 100 grafts to fill in this area to make it look a little more fuller.

Anyway, in my first procedure, the doctor took the donor hairs from only the section just above my right ear and he said that he would use this area for my next transplant. So I guess I'm thinking in regards to weight training and such, I wouldn't be as succeptible to stretching the donor area as much as others who either have their donor hairs extracted from the back or who just get more grafts than I will. So, perhaps I can start weight training a little earlier??? (I would only be doing bicep curls and bench pressess... no deadlifts or squats or anything)

My doctor said that I should be able to do whatever I want after 2 weeks.. But I'm not too confident of that advice either...!

two weeks is kind of reasonable. 1 week allows big transplanters to do light or moderate exercise, so maybe two weeks for you to do what you want. But just don't do any fast until you've done a few reps. Shrugs might stress that side. Just slowly lift weights through their intended range of motion every time you do a different weight, and slowly test your head's range of motion. Once you know these, you can go faster. But you will feel the tension when it is there. As long as you don't force it fast, you should be OK.

And in 8 days, you can wash your hair normally and they will not pop out while lifting. Only the donor sight is vulnerable after 8 days. It might be true that (though I never heared of this) that it takes 4-8 weeks for the grafts to gain the last 10% of stability. But your workout will not affect them. Just don't do a head stand on them or let someone rub their nuckles on them and you should be fine.
