How do you protect against the sun when you're thinning?

I know it's easier for slicks to apply sunscreen directly to the scalp but how do guys who still have hair, but it's thin enough to be at risk for sunburn, apply lotion?

if it's sufficiently hot, i wear some lotion with my buzzed hair.

if it's really really hot; wear a hat.
