My indian roommate said tumeric root powder is good for curing all mallidies. I thought that sounded like folk legend, since one thing could not be that good. Then docj077 tells us about the benefits of curcumin, and that it is found in tumeric root powder. It is 5% of the powder. Now I'm reading many places that anti-oxidants can cure many mallidies. So it seems my roommate was right all along.

What I'm wondering is, how did people know about this years ago? I take the stuff and don't notice much of a difference, but I take it because I know it should be good. It seems other people notice a big difference when they take fish oil.

Anyway, this thread is for all the folk cures that turned out to be true, and any ideas about how people discovered them. Was it just chance? Where there a bunch of other fake cures to balance the good ones? Or could people just really feel the difference?
