How Could Finasteride And Dutasteride Not Shrink The Penis?

Hello, I made a realization and I hope someone can explain. If a person gets their prostate removed, it is a fact that their penis can shrink. Finasteride and Dutasteride shrinks the prostate. With this being said, how could these drugs NOT shrink the length of the penis? If the prostate is getting smaller, wouldn't your total penis length be smaller, just like if you had your prostate removed? Thank you.

Lol, thanks. I wonder why this question has not been answered before (or I can't find the answer). I thought it would be a common question, but I could just be stupid.

Honestly i don't know and i don't think you will find some serious research done on this.

I read a few user comments suggesting that their junk shrinked but most of them were on propeciahelp.com, and this is a well known anxious hypochondriac place. It can be true nonetheless but no actual scientific measure was done to prove or disprove this.

Only thing pretty sure is that it definetly shrinks prostate.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15720071

There has been some studies done on adult rats though, suggesting that the tissue weight of the corpus cavernosum did decrease on finasteride, but they were on huge dosage.
Here is one https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22375859

lol...finger in butt for checking any sign of prostate potential problems starts between 40-50

And someone with a huge donger at 20, still have his huge not working donger at 80, with little shrinkage but not that much

PREPARE YOUR ANUS

Getting your prostate removed and it shrinking are 2 different things.

Second, are you implying 80 year old men have huge c****?o_O
What exactly do you mean? I am saying the majority of people who have their prostate removed end up having a smaller penis length than before they had it removed. With this statement being fact (multiple studies show this) then wouldn't finasteride and dutasteride shrink the penis at least somewhat because you are making the prostate smaller? Please reply.

Based off 2 minutes of research I've done, these men who have prostates removed lose like .5-1cm of penis length, after complete removal of it. How does that correlate to loss in penis size from taking finasteride? I mean even wth COMPLETE removal .5-1cm is wayyy less than I would expect.

Also, if your statement were to be true (shrinking prostate shrinks penis) then the opposite would have to apply, bigger prostate = bigger dick.

That is a good point you made but you are wrong about how much it shrunk. Here is a quote "For example, in one study, 126 men who underwent prostatectomy had their penis length recorded both before and then three times after surgery. The men continued to lose some penis length for at least 12 months after the prostatectomy, with the average loss being 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) when the penis was flaccid and about 1 inches (2.3 cm) when the penis was stretched." Although, the other point you made is good, that bigger prostate means bigger penis (you are saying it prob does not), so now maybe I can calm down.

Actually, studies done on rats, conclude that the corpus cavernosum did loose some weight.
"In the 5ARI-treatment group, the plasma and intraprostatic dihydrotestosterone concentration was lowered by 52.1% and 57.3%, respectively, and the weight of the corpus cavernosum and prostate had decreased by 22.4% and 35.6%"

Corpus cavernosum in not for length, this is for girth.Again this is done on rats on huge amounts of 5AR1, who knows on humans.

There has been some histopathlogic damage too
"Masson's staining, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot all demonstrated decreased smooth muscle and increased collagen deposition and decreased endothelial nitric oxide synthase and LC3-II protein expression in the corpus cavernosum of the 5ARI-treatment group. Using transmission electron microscopy and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick end labeling, decreased autophagy, aggravated ultrastructural injury of mitochondria, and increased apoptosis were observed in the cavernous smooth muscle cells from the rats in the 5ARI-treatment group."

Yeah, well no, this is about DHT in tissue here, not necesseraly prostate size, bigger prostate doesn't mean more DHT in penile tissue.

I've been using Dutasteride every day for four years, and I can say for sure that my penis hasn't shrunk at all either lengthwise or widthwise. I don't know how common penile shrinkage due to 5ar inhibitors is, but it definitely hasn't happened in my case.

Four years is not a long-term usage in human lifespan
"Long-term 5ARI treatment did attenuate the erectile function of aged rats. The mechanisms might have been the decreased rate of autophagy and an increased rate of apoptosis in the cavernous smooth muscle cells, suggesting a new role for androgen in maintaining the structural and functional integrity of the erectile organ. Additional studies are necessary to demonstrate the mechanisms of dihydrotestosterone in regulating the autophagy and apoptosis of the cavernous smooth muscle cells."

How many years old were these aged rats? It should be mentioned that it is of limited usefulness comparing humans to rats, because we are a totally different species and are not as closely related as humans are to monkeys or apes. I'm not ruling out the possibility that I could experience penile shrinkage in the future. All I know is that I haven't done so yet in the four years that I've been using dutasteride.

OK, that is good to know. If it was such a problem I am sure it would be reported much more often.

These rats where 16 months old, equivalent at 35-40 human years, they were on 5AR1 for 16 weeks.
Labs are using rodents for convenience, small easily housed and maintained, inexpensive.
Another reason rodents are used as models in medical testing is that their genetic, biological and behavior characteristics closely resemble those of humans, and many symptoms of human conditions can be replicated in mice and rats.
Over the last two decades, those similarities have become even stronger. Scientists can now breed genetically-altered mice that carry genes that are similar to those that cause human diseases. Likewise, select genes can be turned off or made inactive, creating "knockout mice," which can be used to evaluate the effects of cancer-causing chemicals and assess drug safety,

I'm not saying this will happen, we just don't know, not enough data, and we will never know.
I'll be suprised if 150 men are willing to take finasteride/duta for 20y and go every week to make their junk measured and weighed, along with biopsies. This just won't happen.

And Merck surely do not know either. All the implications of DHT in human biology are not yet known.Reducing by 70-90% this essential hormone over the long term is not very satisfactory, we need new f*****g treatments

I wouldnt put much stock into rat studies, i mean, if that were the case, none of us would be in the predicament we are in now.

OP, FWIW ive been on finasteride for almost 14 months which isnt really long term but i havent noticed any change in size whatsoever.. and im someone who takes pride in my girth so i definitely would notice a change in size.

I also think the whole "18+ take finasteride when fully developed" derives from Merck taking preventative measures to avoid situations like this.

There's a lot of unknowns when it comes to unnaturally removing close to all the DHT from our bodies. That's for sure. For instance, who knows what the possible long-term implications are of inhibiting the recently discovered third isoform of the 5-alpha reductase enzyme, which is potently inhibited by both finasteride and dutasteride. Ultimately, we have to choose whether the risk of using these medications is worth it or not. I personally chose to take this risk with the result being that I have kept my head of hair, rather than choosing not to take the risk at the expense of going bald. I'm happy with the choice that I've made. Ultimately it is for each person to decide.
