How common is finasteride use?

The other day I was on the street and wondered how many people were probably using finasteride.

I know it's been in the US officially since 98 but given as finasteride before that.

I wonder how many actors etc use it and got on it at a stage so that we'll never know. I thought it was really good of James Nesbitt to admit all the effort he was going through. I bet there's quite a lot of people who act like they don't care about their hair or health in the spotlight but really do.

Way less than you would imagine.
And is ratter sad, because there is more people trying "natural" remedies or Shampoos that will never work

I can't really see many actors using it, is not like it is a magical cure. When the damage is done, the best way to save your career is using a wig

I'm talking about people who might lose a bit at their temple or notice a tiny bit of thinning at the crown. These people are under harsh lighting and see themselves from all positions A LOT. So maybe they notice it and in Hollywood have these treatments shoved in their face.

13million worldwide is'nt it? Thats from a population of 3.5bn males so statisticly roughly 1 in every 600 males on earth.
However taking into account that only rich countries and only men of a certain age will use it, I'd say (and this is purely a guess) that about 1 in every 150 men. But since many of that 150 wont have a hairloss or a highly noticable degree of hairloss. I'd summarise that although only a small % of men are using it overal, of all the young western males with hairloss theres probably quite a high % using it.
Probably about 1 in 3 balding young guys. (again this is just my guess from the way I worked it out.)

I think you'd be better working it out based on the US and UK seems like they'd be the most obvious countries to use it with regards to top actors.

http://www.baldingblog.com/2009/08/25/h ... -propecia/

In an informal discussion with a Merck representative a few years ago, I was told that they sell more than 1 million prescriptions, but I do not know how the generic market has hurt the Propecia market. I don’t have any real numbers on how many people taking the name brand or generic, but it is sold in many countries and I’d estimate it is in the millions.

I suspect there's a million or two on propecia and then maybe a few dozen thousand or more taking generics like a lot of us on these boards.

So maybe 3 million people total if I had to guess. Probably including the UK and US. Not many people are on it because you can obviously tell by the amount of recession still going on out there. Most people aren't like us and simply don't care or are too dumb to find ways to stop it.
