How come nizoral only needs a few minutes to fully absorb?

Hi,

I was wondering why it takes minoxidil topicals over an hour to become fully absorbed in the scalp, when nizoral only requires a few minutes in the shower to be absorbed?

And if it is 'shown to be as effective as 2% minoxidil", then how many days, minutes of soak time, and what quantity of nizoral was used when they figured this out?

Thanks..

I've never read that it is as effective as 2% minoxidil. I thought the reason it got thrown in to hairloss mix is because it was used by people who were on the Propecia trials. I thought it was just a medical shampoo that helped deal with itching and greasy hair.

Just found this on the hairlosstalk website:

It is a little known fact that the FDA trial participants all used a shampoo like Nizoral for the duration of the trial. This was required, as the increased sebum production, inflammation, and irritation caused by the balding process can limit the effectiveness of any treatment. This is why it is STRONGLY recommended that a regimen including Propecia also include Nizoral shampoo used once every 3 days in rotation with your normal shampoo. You will not see optimum results without Nizoral, or a shampoo like it, in your regimen.

This information is wrong!!

Nizoral (ketoconazole specifically) is know to have effects of hair growth through its mild anti-androgen properties, this is the very reason it was not used in the trials.

Using Nizoral would skew the results and negate any judgements taken form the trial.

This information on hairlosstalk needs to be corrected.

They used T-Gel in the Propecia trial, not Nizoral. They apparently wanted to eliminate seb derm as a possible confounding variable.

One other detail which keeps getting misrepresented: in the famous French Nizoral study, they compared it to 2% minoxidil, but only ONE DAILY APPLICATION of 2% minoxidil.

Yes but twice daily applications of minoxidil only yield marginally better results than once daily.

Global, are you familiar with the evidence regarding once a day versus twice a day 2% minoxidil?

Very interesting stuff here.

Thanks for your comments guys..

How many days and minutes worth of Nizoral use is required to equal the French study "1x daily 2% minoxidil" idea?

The subjects in that trial used Nizoral exclusively, but there was no indication of the average frequency (i.e., every day, every other day, twice a week, etc.).

It is reasonable to estimate that Nizoral was used once every two months in the French study.
