So i called my family doctor the other day and asked to get a form to have bloodwork done, mainly to check my estrogen level and see if it was skyrocketed up and to see if I was going to be at risk for gyno. They don't call me back for a week and when they do, they say "There is no reason for you to have bloodwork done. Of course your testosterone level is up, your on finasteride. Go see a dermatoligist."

what the heck? I didn't even want to get my testosterone checked.

These people have usually been pretty good about stuff like this but I'd think that when a patient is mildly worried about something and all that is required is a bloodtest, they wouldn't just dismiss is like I was stupid. What's worse, my mom is saying that I have to go to the derm now otherwise they might not refill my prescription if it doesn't look like I am complying with them.

I swear, I know more about this crap than they do.

Well, I certainly did feel that testosterone when they declined my bloodwork application. I'm a wirey mild-mannered soft-spoken 150 lb weakling and when I found out they declined it, I yelled, I cursed, and I punched walls.

These people piss me off. Another 70 bucks for the derm to say, "Yup, you have male pattern baldness." Thanks Doctor, now how about you refer me back to my original doctor so I can have my tits checked out.

Yet more evidence of the absolutely pathetic state of the medical system here in the United States.

I had the same problem. I like to keep things in check, and I made the same request to my Doctor. The bastard dismissssed my worries and said I would have to see a specialist. I said to myself "to get blood work!"

After that I called my Doctor every single day with different questions, the most random sh*t. I would ask if it was ok to put deodorant on more then 5 times a day, how much sodium is good, what sugars I should avoid. In the end, I had to find a new doctor, but hey, at least I gave him a taste of his own 'medicine'. :)

that sucks man, i'm in med school right now, so to some extent i feel "embarrassed" about how doctors are perceived right now, and how a lot of the hair loss people in this forum, and i suspect around the united states, are being treated. I think a lot of them just hate their jobs and aren't really in it because they geniunely care, i hope i never get like that. best of luck.

I think a lot of docs lose sight of why they went to med school when they get a taste of that money. Same thing with lawyers.
