Help with my regime! Will this lead me to success?

Hey guys!

Loooooong time lurker, but just decided to post now.

Based on everything I read on these boards, I started taking propecia two years ago. I only took it for maybe a month becuase I started getting testicular pain. I foolishly attributed the pain to the propecia. Turns out that it had nothing to do with it. So lately, I've been getting worried about my hair again, so I turned to you guys!

I have a lot of hair. If I showed you guys a picture, I'd probably get laughed at for starting this regime. BUT, I can tell that I'm losing my hair. My hair in the front is getting thin and my temples are receeding and it's freaking me out.

So based on your advice, I'm doing the "big 3", as you guys call it. Nizoral, Rogaine. Propecia.

I have some questions. lol. I will post before and after pictures eventually.

#1. I bought Nizoral 2%. I'm confused. Why are you guys recommending Nizoral? It says "Anti-Dandruff Shampoo" on the bottle. I don't have dandruff. What will this shampoo do for hair loss? :p

#2. The bottle of Nizoral says to use it once every 1 or 2 weeks. But reading posts here, some people are using it 3 or 4 times a week. Is that ok? Is it bad for you? And if you use it 3 to 4 times a week, what do you guys use in between those days to wash your hair?

#3. When is the best time of the day to take the propecia? I'm taking it every evening after i eat. Is this ok?

#4. The Rogaine that I purchased is a spray. (the spray sucks, lol.. but i can't find anything else) It says to spray it 6 times on the crown of your hair. So I do that and i rub it in. Is it useful to spray twice on my temples? Will it do anything? lol

This is an expensive regime but if it helps grow new hair, then it's totally worth it!

Thansk guys!

Welcome to the forums :3

1. Ketaconazole is said to combat fungal infections; but it soothes inflammations that you can't even feel, and acts as a weak anti-androgen (so I've heard).

2. a. I use it 2-3x weekly because of two things: That's tradition, it seems; and my dermatologist says to use it that often.
b. Any other shampoo will do. You might want to also use a conditioner, nizoral tends to dry out your hair. I use a Body Shop Ginger (contains Piroctone Olamine) shampoo, rotated with a TGel Coal Tar 1% shampoo, in conjunction with conditioner, and sometimes I use Red Ken Scalp Care shampoo/conditioner. Depends on what I feel like smelling that day. The Coal Tar might not be for you because it smells badly and people were saying it causes cancer. I think if it causes unregulated growth... Maybe it'll be good for hair. who knows. T_T

3. I'm actually also curious about this. I take the pill right before bed on an empty stomach though because:
a. I heard that finasteride stays in your bloodstream for a week but obviously its a decreasing amount;
b. Testosterone levels (and by direct inference DHT) are said to be highest in the morning

4. Can't answer this one... Rogaine gave me white scalp residue and irritation. Plus increased heart rate T_T
