View attachment 93061 Hi, I’m 22 and started losing hair when I was 20. I was just wondering if I’m balding due to genetics (my father is 52 and has a decent amount of hair but my grandpa from my moms side and dad are both bald) or just cause something might be wrong with my hormones. I’ve tried hair oils and applied them to my scalp but didn’t really see a difference. I’ve used minoxidil for a couple months last year but stopped because I didn’t like the side effects. (Saw minimal gains) P.S. my brother is 20 and has a full head of hair.

My diet is fine, I’m a healthy active person that hits the gym 5 days a week. I do wear hats almost everyday so I don’t know if that’s a factor. I’ve also seen my family doctor and have done multiple bloodtests. She said everything was fine except the fact that I had elevated prolactin levels. Which returned back to normal after doing another blood test the next day.

2 years ago I had really dense, long hair and now it’s like I have nothing I can literally pull a bunch of hair from my scalp so easily somedays and it comes out with the bulb at the end.

Sorry for the long post but should I see my doctor again and maybe a dermatologist?

Since you have done blood tests and everything is fine and you are otherwise healthy , it probably is diffuse male pattern baldness , but only a doctor can make a definite diagnosis . If it is indeed male pattern baldness and you are 22 , you would have to use meds like finasteride or dutasteride

Shedding is not a problem as long as it grows back. Your hair is obviously not growing back and the hair cycles are being affected where they are growing but the anagen phase is shortened so more hairs are entering telogen (which is why you can pull hair out easily). Which is what male pattern baldness is in a nutshell. If you were using Minoxidil when you pull your hair out easily, this would be a side effect of Minoxidil.

The longer you wait, the harder it is going be to keep what you have. You already have wasted enough time. Using Finasteride would be the first thing I would do if I were you. You can always use natural treatments alongside this (such as oils, massage, etc.).

Definitely hop on finasteride ASAP. I’d recommend daily scalp massage and minoxidil (if you can tolerate it) for regrowth.

I dont understand how someone can come this far without even knowing they have male pattern baldness. I am 100% sure you have genetic hairloss. If you want to keep hair you should get on the big 3.
