Hi,

I am a 25 year old guy from india. I started losing hair about 2.5 years back. I was very ignorant to start with, but soon reached a stage(6 months later) where my scalp could be seen at the top.

On consulting a doctor, he prescribed me with finpecia 1mg daily along with minoxidil 5% twice a day. I followed this regimen religiously for about 2 and a half months.

At the end of that period, i had reduced my hair fall considerably, but had grown fine hair on my forehead, nose and ears. When i consulted my doctor, he said ,its a side effect of mintop and i had to be more careful and nothing could be done about that.So from than on i used mintop just once a day before going to bed.

4 months into the medication, i had completely stopped hair loss and may have grown new hair(not sure). I was very satisfied with the result. Having said that, my fine hair on forehead and ears had increased further.

I was not very well informed at that point that the medication had to be continued to maintain results obtained.I stopped using both after 4 months. I did the grave mistake of not going back to my doctor as i thought it was irrelevant then.

In about 2 months time all the fine hair had fallen away. Luckily though, i maintained my hair on the head for a couple of more months.

Roughly about 6 months after i stopped medication, my hairloss recurred. It stared off like normally and than the shedding gradually increased and in about a years time (thats now), i am back to square one or probably even worse.I am a diffuse thinner. I have thick hair on the sides and back. Am thinning considerably only at the top of my head.

I started doing my research on the net and i now learnt that these medication are a life time commitment. I am terribly shattered now because
i have lost way too much hair. Had i stuck to my regimen i would have now had a head full of hair but now its in a bad state thanks to my lack of awareness.

Now, i have decided to start off the whole process form the beginning. I have a couple of questions and i would be glad if the forum can help me...

(*)Is it like finpecia and minoxidil, to be taken as a combo or is it fine if i can stick to just one of them??

(*)I am confident of responding to minoxidil(based on past experience) but am very sure that i ll respond to its side effects(fine hair)as well. It was the primary reason why i had stopped using mintop earlier. So i am very apprehensive about using the same. Is there any solution to this problem.

(*) Can i take finpecia only . IS finpecia used only to retain hair and stop hair loss or is it used for hair regrowth as well. IS finpecia alone sufficient to get good results.

Thank you,

regards,
karthik

Take finpecia only..And yes you have to take it FOREVER...minoxidil was causing the ear hair growth not finpecia...

why are you surprised that when you stopped your treatments your progress disappeared?

Yes he was, he said "due to his lack of awareness" with the treatments. Alot of people do not understand that if you quit you lose your progress. I would get back on Rogaine and Propecia and hope for the best. Do not forget to throw Nizoral shampoo into the mix for the best results. All treatment must be used forever or as long as you want results. Good luck to you and welcome to the forum! Keep us up to date on your progress, with luck you might get back some of your gains.

Everything you described it totally normal and expected, even the unwanted hair growth with minoxidil (minop) if you get it on skin or close to it.

Yes, go with the finasteride only, the majority of men have regrowth with it.

You will grow fine hairs on your forehead and ears if you apply minoxidil incorrectly (i.e. on a wet scalp, too fast and not rubbing it letting it pour down on etc). Restart with finasteride and minoxidil, you'll get faster results this way specially if you feel you are not doing that well.
