Long story short, I had to go to the hospital early saturday morning because of pancreatitis. I just got out of the hospital today to go home and recover some more. During this time, I had to miss propecia for four days due to being in the hospital. I checked and the antibiotic I have to take does not interact negatively with Propecia (nor does the vicodin) when I checked online.

My main question is how much damage have I done since having to go off it since going to the hospital?

Probably none at all. I miss 4 days here an there. It is not a big deal. For max results though try to get it every day.

If I go on a 1 week camping trip I will not bring propecia with me, deliborately. I suppose I could bring a small zip lock bag of 7 propecia, but why dig around in my back pack for it? It is not like minoxidil, which has a huge sudden shed if you are off it too long.

OK, some damage was done: about as much as if you had waited an extra 4 days to get on propecia in the first place. You lose maybe 5-10% of your density each year you are not on finasteride. Divide 10% by 365, then multiply by 4, and that is probably how much of your hair you lost. 0.1%. So if you had 1000 hairs per square inch, which is pretty thick, you lost 1 hair in the 4 days. Not as bad as 100 hairs in one year.

Interesting... you got pancreatitis while taking Finasteride.

Coincidence?

Yes, I just found it interesting that it has been linked to Finasteride use in these published case reports. Maybe the original author will find that info of interest as well, since he was taking Finasteride at the time of his diagnosis.

all worth considering. I won't get off finasteride until they confirm it though. You can go NW6 and then discover it actually does not cause it. Keep googling it now and then though, or maybe get your pancreas checked?

just to back up CCS, you're fine missing a few, even a lot, of days on propecia.
over the many years I've missed varying periods of up to 3 weeks, due either to things like CCS's camping trips where it's just not worth it to bring, and also living abroad where I didn't bring enough and took a while to get another script written. No lasting effects.

Even if the days/weeks off allow a view hairs to go into the telogen phase, it's a) unlikely that the number (as CCS's very rough calculations show) will be cosmetically noticably
b) even a hair that enters telogen phases due to the loss of finasteride blocking DHT is not necessarily "lost." They'll still be in line for growth as per normal (non-balding hairs) once you start blocking DHT again. One missed pill does not a minituarized follicle make...
