hey fellas, I know that it's imposible to maybe expect minoxidil type regrowth with nizoral but by paper nizoral 2% sounds like a good hair thickening shampoo. Has anyone notice any thickening, regrowth, or maintenance when they added nizoral 2% or even 1%? your answers will be appreciated.

I've noticed decreased shedding on nizoral 2%. Yeah, I count hairs. I know it's sad but at least it lets me say that my shedding has decreased. I think my hair looks better while I'm using it as well.

Obviously this is just my own personal experience.

are you actually using anything to help against hairloss? minoxidil and finasteride should help but nizoral on it's own, I doubt will do much at all. Try T/Gel for the flakes?

nizoral should not be a big 3. Its the big 2 propecia and rogaine. Nizoral isnt even fda approved but somehow its lumped in with 2 proven treatments.

Okay hair today gone tomorrow. Show me where nizoral has FDA approval go ahead and link the page. Its a shampoo. Prove to me its a powerful anti androgen that is absorbed into the scalp when left on for 10 minutes and regrows hair. I prefer links to double blind studies and not studies done on rats for a week with no control group. Link me those studies, and ill turn that frown of yours upside down.

Nizoral could be swapped for the new and amazing recent research that says tgel coal and tar is an anti androgen. So I mean I guess now its the big "4" right? maybe throw in saw palmetto and make it the big 5 since saw palmetto has research showing it inhibits dht as well. Give me a break lets draw the line somewhere. FDA approval unfortunately does have to mean a whole lot because its the only time we get meangingful studies and benchmarks are set otherwise no company is willing to spend the time or money.

There is a very big difference between a 5 year double blind thorough study like propecia had compared to the crappy small short term ones we usually get and cite. I dont know. My dermatologist doesnt prescibe out nizoral 2% to me along with my propecia. Why not? maybe hes not as smart as us and doesnt know we coined the term the big "3" I mean i would hope if nizoral 2% is as powerful a regrowth agent as its claimed by many he would certainly have the gumption to prescribe me nizoral 2% to go along with my propecia right for the synergistic effect?

do you know how expensive it is to go thru FDA testing? millions of dollars. you want prove look at the regrowth pics for men that use 2% keto lotion...look at the INDEPENDENT studies that showed increase hair counts, decreased shedding, AND increased hair shaft diameter while using nizoral 2-3x a week. the pics and the studies are out there ive seen them and read them...so if you want prove go search for them cuz im not gonna go lookin for them. nizoral is not a STRONG REGROWTH AGENT AT ALL...its an anti-androgen, it helps slow down/stop hair loss...and when fighting hair loss every little bit helps. You have to shampoo your head everyday anyway...right? might as well use it. It is synergistic with propecia...I have read studies claiming this.

Regular physicians dont research hair loss...they wouldnt know about nizoral...that is the least of their concerns...just because they dont know about it doesnt mean it isnt useful. and just to let you know...my doctor DID tell me to use nizoral when he prescribe my propecia.....I already knew about it and I had already started using it...but he did mention it to me nonetheless.

There are a couple of good quality studies published in peer-reviewed journals that show ketoconazole increases hair count. No, they're not as good as the evidence for finasteride and minoxidil, but they're better than the evidence for anything else. Maybe nizoral shouldn't be considered part of the big three, but the evidence clearly shows that after minoxidil and finasteride it's the next best thing.
Add to this the fact that it's very cheap and easy to use. That's important too.

I don't have the links to all the studies on hand but they have been posted many times before. How about this one for the moment:

The Journal of Dermatology, 2002 Aug, 29(8):489-98, Comparative efficacy of various treatment regimens for androgenetic alopecia in men, Khandpur, Sujay; Suman, Mansi; Reddy, Belum Sivanagi.

This was a parallel-group study comparing different treatments. It didn't have a control group. Also, it was not blind unfortunately. It was randomized though.

"At the end of one year, hair growth was observed in all the groups with best results recorded with a combination of finasteride and minoxidil, followed by finasteride and ketoconazole, finasteride alone and minoxidil alone.

Not the best evidence, but pretty damn good compared to all the snake oil out there.

You're not supposed to be able to detect any changes from Nizoral. When you read the studies, did you not even pay attention to the numbers? They are so small, but the fact they are small positive numbers makes it useful for hair loss. I'd be pretty surprised if anyone could be able to detect a 7-8% increase in hair shaft diameter or a 16-17% decrease in hair shedding.

Have faith in the studies - rp

no im not takin propecia or minoxidil yet. obviously nizoral isnt going to regrow my hair but i was taking it for seborrheic dermatitis. been usin it 2-3 times a week for months now and havent noticed a difference in my hair and still see flakes everywhere. i just cut my hair a couple weeks ago and noticed in the hair that was cut off tons of big flakes

im havin blood tests run and visited the doctor a couple weeks back since ive been havin a lot of things wrong with me healthwise. waitin for results before i go out and buy rogaine foam or propecia. my hair is diffuse thinning all over at the top.

Thats true. Ill give you that. There are studies the active ingredient of nizoral does increase hair counts. Its not really cosmetically significant though, and its not going to stop hair loss.
