Actually you are not totally correct. I used to get pissed off at all the "incorectly" used reggy words here, then I looked it up for myself. It seems those crazy brits define things a bit differently. Apparently regime also means: ((medicine) a systematic plan for therapy (often including diet)). That use is less common in the US but is still valid.

HuH? Are you trying to be funny or do you think "regeime" is a word? I know you Brits like to spell things funny, but that would be taking things a bit far.

I have to admit, though. The British can make a good movie every once in a while. Shaun of the Dead was incredible.

i think brittania was trying to say that this is a stupid thing to talk about because it really doesnt matter. as long as we all know what the other is talking about then thats enough. language is simply an arbitrary assignment of meanings to certain sounds.

That argument is not valid. Admittedly it seems a bit pedantic to complain about grammer and speeling, but it makes me feel better when I see things spelt correctly :)

If I wanted atrocious spelling I would just stick my head out of the window :p

Why exactly is the argument not valid? one cant expect people to act a certain way simply to make you feel beter. Oh also regime and regimen are equally acceptable, AND the question was on incorrect use of words, not their spelling.

I don't know, if someone went around saying "2+2=6 I don't care dis how i be doin math on da net," I'd say it's somewhat reflective of a less intelligent mind. Words are spelt differently because they have different meanings, whether or not they are arbitrary assignments of sounds.

I am not that bothered but I understand it can be annoying when someone whose first language is English has very poor grammar to the point that it becomes labourious to read and seems they are just being downright lazy.

Equally, we must also be considerate to those using this site whose first language is not English. These guys may want their hairloss questions answered and to take the piss or pull them on their spelling or grammar is completely unfair.

My Turkish is shite, by the way.

NOONE SPELT ANYTHING THE WRONG WAY. Brittania was making a point. either way the purpose of language is to convey meaning. if meaning is conveyed then understanding is served.
