Hair thinning on sides - thoughts? (Album Inside)

Hi all,

I have noticed some hair thinning post-accutane (not sure if those are correlated, but I started noticing after finishing 'tane). Album: http://imgur.com/a/32FFc

It's strange because it seems that it is primarily affecting the upper sides of my head (and potentially the back), and not my crown/temples. Any advice on:

1) What type of hair loss this is
2) What caused it/is causing it
3) What my treatment should look like?

I have a derm. appointment in early July, but I want to go prepared with some knowledge if possible!!!

Thanks!

This is most likely Androgenetic Alopecia. Your hairline is going up in a very balanced and careful pattern. I am sure you are very young and that confirms Androgenetic Alopecia even more. Accutance induced hairloss may have a part in exacerbation or general thinning. Please keep us posted if indeed this is the case or hopefully not.

Are you saying Androgenetic Alopecia is causing the thinning on the sides? I'm not so worried about the hairline on the front (for now!). I'm really worried about the thin sides though! Any advice?

Sorry, I misunderstood. The thinning you are concerned about is probably due to Accutane, and hardly that severe. It only shows in intense light given there is almost no contrast between your hair color and scalp color. That should be your least concern. Anyway, in my opinion, stopping Accutane should help regrow that hair on its own. Maybe someone has better treatment or advice for that kind of issue.
