The idea that suddenly the US will be decoupling from China in the near or even mid-distant future is an impossibility. There is absolutely no way that US manufacturing can pick up even a small amount of the massive manufacturing capacity that China has. And currently, there is no other country that can take its place. BTW, I have a degree in Economics, so I am not just speaking out of my ***, so to speak.
Most of the hair system manufacturers are located in Qingdao, China, or their factories are. Until the start of the COVID-19, almost all of the knotting was done in North Korea. That is not happening since the border with N. Korea and China closed, with no sign of it re-opening anytime soon.
The companies in China have been ramping up local knotting capabilities, but are still relying on North Korea coming back online in the near future. Although from the bits and pieces of news coming out of the Hermit Kingdom, COVID-19 is wreaking havoc, so who knows when or at what volume things will return to normal.
There are some companies that do manufacture in other countries, but they are dealing with serious COVID-19 issues (Vietnam, for example).
I know that Cesare Regazzi allegedly manufacturers some of his systems in Europe, but charges thousands for a single unit.
Bottom line, systems are more expensive and with fewer options than before, but certainly are available, I know this because I am in the business and deal with ordering both custom and premade units on a daily basis.
