Hi,
I am a young male suffering from Alopecia patchy hairloss. It's getting to the stage now where i can no longer cover the patches up with hair fiber concealers, and looking at how some hair systems look, I think they can look good so i need to look at this option quickly before I loose all my hair. How i see with my particular hair loss i am a little unsure of how to do it. I have a few questions and hopefully someone can clear these up

1. I do not have receding hair in one place like on top of my crown or at my temples, my hair loss is patches, at the top of my head, a big patch at the bag of my head and huge patch around one ear, plus many small patches throughout my scalp, so I would have to have my head completely shaved and have a full head of hair put on, is it possible to do that?

2. How does it work making a template, do you have to shave your head to do this to measure round my whole head? if that's true and it takes several weeks for your hair system to arrive, the transition between a shaved head and a full head of hair in a several week period would be odd and obviously noticeable, unless its possible to make a template with a full head of hair?

3. How do full head hair systems come, do they already come cut and it's just a case of installing it on my scalp, or do they still need to be cut in? I mean if you look at certain hairstyles when you are buying them, do they simply come in that hairstyle or has a salon got to style it for you and if i did need it cut and styling how would i find a salon that could do that?

i know there are alot of questions there, but any help shedding light on some of these questions would be really appreciated.

thanks

Hi there,

1. Yes you would need to clipper shave you hair and wear a full cap. I have a friend thats had alopecia since he was 15 and he wears a full cap. He's now in his 30s. Its been a huge help to maintain his quality of life.

2. You can either take certain measurements or create a template with clingfilm and sellotape. Any company you go with will help you there. You dont need to shave your head until you have the system. In that time you could grow your existing hair to best hide any patches. Depending on wear you buy it will take 8 to 12 weeks to arrive.

3. They could like other systems in 6 inch lengths ready to cut. You would need to visit a salon. Again where you buy should be able to help with that. You just turn up and the salon will cut it to the style you want.

My only other advice is dont pay over the odds at some salon charging £1000 to £2500 and get ripped off. This should not cost more than £400 and last 12-months. Also buying direct from China is a hit and miss affair.
