"Hair piece" versus Hair Transplant for NW3

I am on the fence between "hair system" versus hair transplant. hair transplant doctors say I'll get a good result from hair transplant. Wig/HairPeice makers say I have way to much hair loss and that only a "system" will give me the density I need.

On the hair transplant side I have consulted with: Bosley, Umar, Ziering, Rassman, H&W (feller has not gotten back to me)

On the Hair piece side I have consulted with Ferrel, Katz and William at HairForGuys

Each solution has tradeoffs (transplants create scars compromising a future headshave) ("systems" wreak havoc on the hair they are stuck to) (drugs can mess with endrochronolgy and can create issues far worse than hairloss)

- If I were NW6 with good sides I would do a custom piece.

- IF I were NW1 with thick hair I would do a hair transplant for sure

....but at NW3 with cotton candy like hair, I am right up the middle so its a tough call.

Any suggestions are more then welcome. I am looking to cultivate a "rocker" look and am not opposed to using concealers like dermatech, scarfs/hairbands, wefts or "clip ons" in the back if necessary (if a hair transplant can solve the recession in the temples.

I have posted some of my reviews of my consults in other posts but I will post a comperhnsive update on my meetings with all these people. With the exception of H&W, I actually met all the doctors and wigmakers listed above in person. Hopefully my pics help. I am on the fence and looking for an impartial opinion here.

Currently I lean twords 3500 strip with Hasson of H&W.

"IF I were NW1 with thick hair I would do a hair transplant for sure"

what? lol. If you were NW1 with thick hair, who cares about hair transplant lol

DO you feel your regimen is mantaining what you have? how long have you been on it and has it atleast made your hairloss not any worse? if it has been mantaining your hair, then go for the transplant aslong as you have the money and using the best doctor to do it. one of the renowned ones. Wigs are like... deceiving people. Transplants not so much cause in reality it's still your own hair haha. all in my opinion ofcourse.

btw, i'm anti propecia too. Pure poison. But most of the time that seems to be the only thing that works. So if you're not using that, make sure your own non propecia regimien is mantaining otherwise don't go for hair transplant.

first of all you should have say us your age...You can have a very succesfull hair transplant with that kind of hairloss but only if that will not progress...first of all you should know if you can stop that progressing...wait for some time to see if propecia will work for you...don't take hair transplant before seeing if propecia can work for you...
you can get good results even with a hair system...but i will advise you to not spend your money with farell and others...just try toplace or ba hairapparent...and nothing more... you will get bet results with much more less money...

don't listen to dudemon...this can be really undetectable at least visually...he has this attitude like some of the others members who has had poor results after multiple hair transplant's..so it's obvious to be against something like this I bet he can not even be able to blend fake hair with natural ...because his hair is thin all over...besides this you can get also a bad results from an hair transplant...

If i was you...I will put in balance my age...my hairloss history that runs in familly...and really considering propecia or dudasteride...and if those factors are good I will take an hair transplant instead of hairpiece...but if one of those elements are not good...maybe you should not try hair transplant and just to go to hairpiece route...

I am not a fan of a wig or hair transplant...is just my pure and honest opinion...a bad hair transplant you can not repair...a hairpiece you can try and if you don't like it just drop it...or you can wait for future treatments...take care!

I actually think a hair transplant is the best solution in your situation, dependent on how stable your loss is.

But...lol@ dudemon's paranoid ravings.

I would go with that, 3500 - 4500 strip would really solve most of your problems in 6 months. In regards to strip vs FUE, maybe 1500 FUE on your hairline, but I don't think you would get a very thick look.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

thank you for the candid evaluations. i tend to agree with some of you , in that a hair transplant would give me some illusion of a passable hair style and it would be an improvement over this "larry from the 3 stooges" look i have now, but it would not be like I was Fabio by any stretch of the imagination.

I wore hair in the 80's in my rocker days, and like some of you, did not lose alot of sleep wondering whether or not I got "detected". I wore extensions in the back, integration on top (pulling my own hair thru, ultra thin glued on cap, and even full cap toupee at one point. Making a great first impression and having a great look far out weighed the chance that some person behind my back might be saying "did you know that his hair isnt real". After a few years it became second nature to me and i was not self conscious at all.

I think we are talking about the lesser of 4 evils (beause being born with a full head of sexy hair is not one of the options)

1) bald (shave)
2) larry from the 3 stooges
3) some semblance of a "Clark Kent" type "thin" hair style ,via Transplant (but then your done and your "real")
4) "system" : great look - but some stigma

I think its a judgemnet call. Like womens makeup. I think an 18 year old polenesan girl with no make-up is sexy. I also think a 45 year old cacasean women who spent 45 minutes putting on makeup is sexy too. Some guys dont. they think its uncool that women look one way in the morning and anohter madeup. i think "systems" are similar in that some people could care less and some people are going to be weird about it. but again. the alternative is "larry from the 3 stooges".

I dont know if my hair is on the way out or not in the front. I am not using finasteride Rogain or nizeral any more because of issues i was having (primarily with finasteride), so I would say my chances are high of chasing the male pattern baldness (if I go the hair transplant route) .

BTW , I am late 40's.

Some days i think 3500 grafts in the front, concealer and maybe some hair tacked on the back (or a yamaca type cap on the back of the head - throwing off plumes of hair for length in the back)

Some days i think micro thin sensigraft type cap over a shaved head.

I dont want to chase the male pattern baldness with hair transplant after hair transplant after hair transplant just to then be in the same predicament, but I also dont want to forsake the "strength" I have in the forlock, and shave and cover the hair line if I can avoid that.

i think that it IS a tough call, and if I have more or less it hair it could be quite an easy call.

Thanks again everyone.
