Hi everyone-

First time posting!

I’m a 30 year old Caucasian male, and I currently have very long dreadlocks of which I am very proud, that have been steadily growing for more than 10 years now.

Given my family history, I’ve done pretty well to get to 30 with all my hair (the majority of my uncles lost their hair quite young, and my dad was almost completely bald by the time he hit 25) However, I think I am now finally starting to get the first signs of the dreaded-but-inevitable thinning. (Pun intended :p)

I desperately want to keep my locks, but after doing a bit of reading I have a few concerns about some of the treatments available- a lot of regimens seem to say that they cause you to lose much of the hair you currently have (“Every legitimate hair loss treatment causes a period of shedding”- from the treatments/rogaine section) does this mean that if I start treatments, I’m going to lose my dreadlocks first?!

I never experienced shedding personally. Problem is that dreadlocks are inherently bad for your hair so the cause of thinning may be non related to male pattern baldness even though its most likely male pattern baldness.
