Hair Loss due to stress? Dreadlocks not recommendable?

Hey guys. I'm wondering if it is possible at all for hair loss to be related to stress and anxiety?
I'm 20 years old and I started to have a little frontal hair loss at the common top sides of my head, some months before this first appeared I started working on a company and it was a very stressful process.

Besides the 4 trains that I catch daily to go to work, I used to be a work addict. I would arrive home, tired as hell and would still work more on a side project that was giving me some good income, 'till I went to sleep.

I've always wanted to get dreadlocks but now I'm not very sure if I should, if the loss is related to stress and anxiety I think it's okay to get a new hair style that can bump my moral and happiness in general.

P.S. - Neither my father or grandfathers have had hair loss, in fact my father's hair is pretty thick and still has most his hair at 60's. The only hair loss that my family had was my mom's during pregnancy. About a month ago I started taking Minoxidil 5 and I already see some drastic changes, lots of small hairs growing on the front of my hair.

If you could give me your opinion on this matter, would be awesome, have a great weekend guys!

heya man :)

I know exactly how you feel and can follow your trains of thought because I'm very similar - I think my hair loss was triggered by stress, amongst other things I think.

As far as I can work out, stress seems to mess up the body's hormonal balance and increase inflammation, and this is how it causes hair loss. It can also chuck off the thyroid hormone balance a bit I think, particularly prolonged stress (I believe this is what has happened to me, I'm 24 and have been stressed since about 20).

A lot of people disagree with me on all this stuff but I have been doing about 3 months or more of fairly intensive research so I'm fairly confident in what I've learnt! :)

Erm, basically my regimen is aimed stress, diet and lifestyle -induced male pattern hair loss, but I haven't been on it long enough to tell you with any certainty that it is yet successful. I am noticing regrowth at the front, but then I had been using a fair amount of Nizoral on that area about 2-3 weeks ago for a good month or two, so it could be that. I'm still shedding I think, but then I haven't been on the regimen long, and I believe my thyroid is still off-balance.

Basically, it's not that I don't believe things like finasteride and nizoral and stuff work, it's that I think that if I can tackle the root causes, I can cure it and a whole bunch of other things that I should deal with as well.

Just my theory/approach :)

But yes erm, I would recommend taking some things to cap your stress levels. 1-3 grams of vitamin C, 250-500mg of magnesium (with twice as much calcium) and a gram a day of Omega 3 should cap it completely, and if not you can always chuck in b-vitamins or a herb like Sensoril (ashwagandha) but be aware it will lift your testosterone a bit. Also avoid stimulants and adopt a good diet with minimal carbohydrate and sugar :)

Oh, warning about the vitamin C, come off it slowly if you ever decide to, as the body gets a bit used to high doses and then gets a bit shocked if you come off them too fast! That may just be on particularly high doses though like 3 grams and above.

Aaaanyway! That's my advice and experience :)

Hoppi!
