Hair Clips: Can They Be Added to Any Base?

I really want to try clipping, with maybe a little layer of glue at the hairline.

I feel lace + clips would be so comfortable & easy + I don't feel embarassed about it.

Can I just buy them and add to any base or do I need to buy a clip-ready system?
