Going to Derm: Is Proscar better than Propecia?

So I know they're both Finasteride, but I've been on Propecia for about 6 months now and it costs about 90 bucks for 30 pills.

I also haven't seen any results, and if anything it's probably a tad worse. Haven't had any sides really except perhaps SLIGHT sexual change, but I might just be making stuff up in my head.

Anyway, I've never really payed as much attention as I should when others are talking about Proscar and how they cut up their pills and all. But I'm just wondering what I should tell the Doctor and I will worry about how to cut it and take it later on. How should I approach him, and should I tell him how I plan to cut the pills up so I can save money and still expect to take the same dosage of Finasteride as I would be with Propecia?

Think that will cut it?

Also, is the reason Proscar is cheaper is because there is a generic version of it, and with Propecia there is no generic?

Am I wrong on that?

Proscar is the same drug. It has 5mg of finasteride versus 1 mg in Propecia. You can cut the Proscar into 4 (or 5) pieces and get the equivilant of 4 (or 5) Propecia pills. At my pharmacy, 120 Propecia was $240 and 30 Proscar was $105 so I saved quite a bit. I live in a very small town. Prices are high for everything so might be less elsewhere or online.

30 pills of 5mg Gefina costs me €4,47. :) Cut in quarters, that's a four month supply. With a real dermatologist's prescription from a real physical pharmacy.

Here's a question; can you cut Proscar/Fincar into more than fourths? I would like to start .5mg or close with it, possibly stay on that dosage. Anyone done this?

Same exact situation. I was paying 80 bucks for 30 @1mg, while switching to Proscar I got 30 pills at 5mg for 30 bucks!!! Unbelievable.

Just went to the doctor and told him that I am going to save money as its a cheaper prescription and he was happy to oblige.

Cutting in 0.5 mg is going to be tricky, but I can say after doing the cuts today, it holds pretty well ( as in the pill doesn't break away nor is it too brittle).

Use a pill cutter and although tedious it should prove good enough.

Awesome, how many pieces do you cut each pill into, and do you recommend a certain pill cutter above others?
