Hey guys,

First post.. I just wanted to say that I've had Propecia for a while but put off using it for a few reasons. Before I mention them, I'd like to say that I know two people my age (I'm pretty young, early 20s) who have been on it, and one said it made him really horny and the other has gyno! Ouch. Both of them have great hair though. Obviously, the "really horny" thing seems to against 90% of what others say. However, my sex drive as it is sucks, so I figure if it hurts it, I won't notice, and if it helps.. well, great! I put aside the horror stories and figure that I owe it to myself to try it.. I just got through a nasty painkiller addiction and want to give myself some self-esteem back if I can.

The only thing that worries me is the gyno. I really don't want that, as I'm trying to start working out again and it would suck getting it. My question is: if I monitored my pecs for the tenderness associated with gyno, would it be too late if I stopped taking it right away? Also, do many people experience breast tenderness without experiencing permanent gyno? I'm just wondering how nervous I should be if I were to experience it.

Thanks a lot!!

ive been on finasteride for like 3 months

some days my nipples feel tender ...but its not every day maybe like 2 days a month

just keep an eye on the below your nipple region and nipple as well that's where gyno will hit you

but that only happens in like 2% of males

just keep an eye on the fat in your pec area, if your looking like breasty mc breast breast get off it and they should go away with a good diet

cheers

ps get off the pain pills guy they will lead you nowhere

Thank you! Soo.. its normal for nipple tenderness on propecia? :dunno: Anyone else get it?

One thing I forgot to ask in the first post - is 1mg what I should be taking? I remember reading a study that said .25mg inhibited DHT to almost the same extent as 1mg, but with less sides. Apparently, however, since its unknown if the DHT inhibition is directly responsible for finasteride's effectiveness, a lower dose may not be effective. I'm looking for anyone with experience in this.

Thanks guys, this board is great

(And yeah, I know. I think the hair loss indirectly affected my drug usage.. low self-esteem, but not depressed. On the other hand, my friend who got gyno is soo depressed, physically and emotionally, and I think its from the Propecia. :( I'm hoping for better results)

well sides are not normal ......only like less than 2% of people get them

but you are messing with your hormones sooo you might experience some "slight sides"

i myself have experienced few sides ..but nothing severe and only like for a day

honestly ive only felt nipple tenderness 3 times and ive been on finasteride for 3 months

some people use .25 mg ........ some studies show it just as effective. i dont know for sure that it is

i would suggest to use the recommended amount merck suggest either 1mg or 1.25 with proscar split, but the call is yours

i forgot to mention

keep an eye on your pec/nipple tenderness

if its happening every day, i would assume that it might lead to gyno

however i wouldn't stop using finasteride untill you start to see fattly deposits in your pec area

I'm worried that it will be too late by then, but I'm gonna take it anyway. I think I'm biased because of what happened to my friend.. sucks for him I guess. He just continued taking it though. I wonder if Nolvadex or a similar drug would help? That was my plan, to get some nolva or something in case it happened, but it seems like its not a big deal.

Your comments are very different from what I've seen on other boards. Many have said its a poison of a drug because of the sex drive issues and other side effects. I guess negative thinkers herd together. Thanks fellas

Just curious, at which stage do people begin to experience the hormonal side effects? A week? A month? I am well aware of the placebo effect, but my suboxone taper is without a doubt affecting my hormones as well. I don't want to blame the propecia on the vast effects of opiate withdrawals! Also, how long does the initial phase of shedding last? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get the facts, ma'am (well, I guess you're all mostly guys..)

I started feeling a tenderness around my chest area around the 2 month mark. I do not know if I have more fat there, as I have a little gut as well, and if you have a gut you will also have fat behind the chest area. I cut down to .25 mg and the sides pretty much went away, and today I tried 1mg again and I have not felt anything yet. I think some do get the sides, but I also think a lot of people think they have sides because of all the sh*t they read online. I am going to continue on and try and cut more fat from my diet so that I will truly know if i get gyno. Remember, breast tenderness does not always mean you have gyno, some have said they got breast tenderness and it went away, others have said it progressed to gyno. If you get really worried just get a blood test, or lower the dosage. I thought I had less of a sex drive in the beginning, but it was all in my head, or it was my hormones stabilizing. Sometimes your hormones just have to get used to finasteride, and the sides will disappear.

I also think that when I started to feel the breast tenderness that I was poking and squeezing my chest area so much to feel if I had gyno that I was bruising that area, therefore making it seem like it was more tender than it truly was.
