Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and in desperate need for help, I'm 25 year old male losing approximately 200-500 hair strands a day, texture of my hair has changed, and hair has become thinner. About a year ago I was hospitalized due to minor cellulitis on my toe because of athletes foot, was put on IV 24 hours a day for straight 7 days. Since than I have been losing close to 200-500 hair a day. It started out with couple hair a day than after my barber pointed out I was thinning out in middle of head it started getting worse from there on. I am starting to see my scalp at the vertex and the top part of my head due to thinning and loss of hair. The texture of my hair completely changed, it is more frizzy, dry, and curly. I never had curly hair, but now I have the really dry and crappy curly hair that feels fragile and would come off if I run my figures through my hair. I have seen 2 different dermatologist, both have diagnosed me with Telogen Effluvium + male pattern baldness. It is past 6 months almost 1 year and I am still losing tremendous amount of hair daily. I recently had a scalp biopsy done on two spots. The results came back bad, saying I have Androgentic Alopecia (I assume it’s the same thing as male pattern baldness) with normal levels of telegon effluvium. Which makes no sense to me because I thought when you male pattern baldness you lose hair slowly not 200-500 hair a day. I have gone into deep depression, hate looking at myself, hate being around people, hate going anywhere public, hate taking pictures, can’t pay attention in school and work. In the past 8 months I have lost 50% of my hair, and has ruined my life. Someone please help me get some answers, I am going crazy here. I need to know are the biopsy results are always accurate, and if so why am loosing so much hair. My bathroom is filled with my hair no matter how much I clean it, everywhere I go I leave a trail of hair. No one has a definite answer for my excessive hair loss. I am also currently on adderall, bioton, Multi vit, bunch of other vitamins, use rogain 1 time a day, and a prescription shampoo keto. 2%. NO ONE in my family had Male Pattern Baldness in my family over the age of 50, my grandfather had full set of hair when he passed away, my dad still has full set of hair just recently past year he’s losing hair and he’s 56 years old. Everyone that has suffered hair loos in my family has had it after the age of 50. I am under a lot of stress for the past year, going through depression, school, and work more stress than I have ever been in. PLEASE HELP I have completely lost all my self-esteem, confidence, cannot pay attention in school or work, can't even look at myself with out breaking down into tears. PLEASE HELP!! Thank You, Jay Patel

Not gonna re-read it so sorry if I missed it, but I see nowhere in your post you mention finasteride/Propecia/dutasteride despite you being diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia through a derm and biopsy. Get on finasteride/dutasteride because none of the stuff your taking is stopping the DHT. There is no one answer to how fast/slow one will lose his hair. Some lose it over the course of years others lose it in a year.

Go back to your derm and ask for a script for finasteride.
If you think it's just Telogen Effluvium wait it out and see what happens.
If you think its something else get your blood test taken.
If that comes back clear and you want a better evaluation seek a hair transplant surgeon.

First and foremost I really appreciate your quick reply. I have an appointment with my dermatologist in couple of days after getting the letter at home. I have considered looking into finasteride/Propecia/dutasteride, but I am really concerned about the side effects which is the reason I might not go on them. What I really want to know is how am I losing so much hair on a daily base if I have Androgenetic Alopecia I have always read everywhere it's a slow process. I wanted to know if someone else had a similar situation and found something that has helped them slow down the shedding process.

a) you need to get on finasteride
the side effects WONThappen stop being scared by it seriously...
b) try minoxidil x 2 daily for a few months and see if it works for you

but if you are serious about halting your hairloss youd try finasteride because its the only proven medical treatment that those individuals suffering from male pattern baldness can take, and possibly counteract or at least slow down the effects of male pattern baldness.

seriously get on it ASAP. ive taken pills, smoked weed, smoked meth, had pcp, etc, THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS FROM finasteride ARE SO LOW CHANCE THAT you should just ****ing risk it man. its one tiny pill a day.
seriously

the decision you have to make is whether or not you are more worried about the 1% chance youl get sides and in which case you can stop taking finasteride, or if you want to keep losing your hair. your choice
