going bald - how long should it take?

Hey,

I've been going very slowly bald for about 5 years now. I'm now 30, and have only seen hairloss at the back of my head, over those 5 years the bald area has grown from nothing to now being the size of about 2 x 2 inches.

The "bald" part isnt completely bald, but still has a few hairs dotted around. I have no hairloss anywhere else on my head and have never experienced "shedding".

Any idea why my head is taking so long to actually succumb to going bald?

I first noticed some slight temple recession and thinning on top when I was 21. I'm 35 now and still appear to have a full head of hair as long as i don't cut the top too short. Thank god the back of my head seems to have been spared. It's been a really slow process and my hair is better now than I thought it would be at this point.

Scottie, temple recession at around 21 is perfectly normal its just the hairline changing from your teenage/juvinile hairline to your adult one most guys lose their nw1 and receed to nw1.5 -nw2 at this age. in fact its probably more common than not. You may have been worrying over nothing.

As for going bald there are no set rules on how long it can take. Its the same as what age will it start or what pattern will you recede in.

Well it's the thinned out top of my head that i hate. I can't have any hair style i want...it has to have a little length. My personality is to keep it real short like Mathew Fox on Lost. And I can't shave it cause then everyone thinks I'm a skinhead or criminal. But I guess I should feel fortunate to still have the amount of hair i do when others have it much worse.
