Hi Everybody,

I love this Forum! Even if the subject is tragic  it doesn't hurt to laugh about it sometimes and some of the comments I read here are hilarious, you are so funny!
Anyway a little about myself: I first used Minoxidil about 10 years ago but I had to stop because of an allergic reaction (to PG?), before that I tried every single thing available with the official and non official medicine: nizoral, oil based shampoos, scalp massage, injections, herbal ointments, supplements,( I even covered my head with some kind of expensive mud), you name it.
Since I knew (because of family history) I was going to loose my hair sooner than later, I started worrying very early even if I had plenty of hair. My idea was to try to prevent before it happened but despite my determination (I visit dermatologists all over the place) my plan didn't work out and when when I was around 26 my hair started thinning and yada yada yada the same story as everybody else. It took me 2 more years to realize I couldn't have my hair back the way I wanted so after a period of depression I shaved it and I have being fairly happy about my decision for the last 6 years then the other day I found this forum
After I found U I immediately made an appointment with a dermatologist and today I got my bottle of Nizoral 2% and I am ready to start all over again.
I wasn't very happy with what the doctor told me he seemed to know less than I did and he was very generic and with few suggestions besides the obvious while I was expecting him to be more specific, anyway thank God for you guys, a source of knowledge and inspiration. :)
Now back to the questions:
I want to give it a try and start all over again what do you recommend I should use? I would like to keep it simple.
1)I have Nizoral 2% to be used 2-3 times a week
2)I was thinking about getting Xandrox 5% w/o PG or Minoxidil 5% w/o PG
What is the difference between the 2?
Shall I start with a Xandrox 12.5% or even 15% or is it better to use the 5% to begin?
3) At this time I don't want to use Finasteride because I'm kinda scared by the possible side effects so I would like to use a topical DHT inhibitor (no side effects right?)
What do you suggest? Is there a Minoxidil/Xandrox version that already contains a topical DHT inhibitor like Azelaic Acid or something equivalent?
I am open to any suggestion, but no more mud for me please

Yeah, there will be naysayers to this comment, but I really felt as though I knew more than my derm. also; he didnt even appear to know diffuse thinning was male pattern baldness.

I don't have any experience with Xandrox but minoxidil has been effective for me thus far, especially around my temples which were fading back a bit. It's alot harder to judge its effectivness on diffuse though, as you could imagine, because all the new hairs are mixed in with the other hairs.

Your regimen sounds good. I think theres a good topical for dutasteride but I have no personal experience with it, nor do I know of one with minoxidil.

But you said you're thinning and if you browse through this site you'll read several people had very good things to say about the Laser Comb; I just ordered one yesterday. It's supposed to be excellent for your scalp, too. I don't know your financial situation but if you can afford one (about $645 new, $500 refurbished) you might want to add that to your regimen, also.

Good Luck though sorry I cant be of more help .

I think it's gonna be quite tough for you to accomplish what you want without the use of an internal, such as finasteride. At least give it a whirl -- if you experience side effects after a year of taking it, just quit.

Thanks for the replies.
I will give it a safe try at this point, I have been shaved/bald for the last 6 years and I survived so if I can improve risk free fine, if not too bad, that's my approach :D
I saw the laser comb selling on ebay for much less than what you mentioned, from Leimo I believe, is there a specific brand that is better than the others?
About Xandrox, I thought it was just another name for Minoxidil, in fact it contains Minoxidil + some other ingredients (Azelaic acid I believe)..

I should start by saying I am in no way affiliated with Hairmax's Laser comb, if you search my posts you'll realize that. I was on ebay too and looking at leimo combs, they usually sell for around 300, and I was very close to bidding on one until I googled something on them and found a study claiming they released less power and no one, at least that I saw, had experienced any positive results from them (except mice used in studies). If you want to invest in one, I just suggest you research alot before you buy one, its better to spend more on something that will actually work. From my research, Hairmax's Laser Comb has produced the best benifits (i'm not even sure how good the results they produce for hair are, my primary goal with using it is to improve my scalp condition) from what I've seen. Either way you go, just make sure you research the product you are looking into. Good luck.
