So I started taking finasteride last July (11 months ago). Back then I was more or less a NW1 with some slight recession to a NW1,5 on one of my temples. Got on finasteride right when I started noticing thinning, knowing my family history and all.
Fast forward 4 months and both temples had receeded to NW1,5, with one starting its way into NW2 territory and what's worse my crown showed signs of miniaturization. I started freaking out and added minoxidil and ketokenazol to my regimen. Continued with 1 mg finasteride religiously as well.
In around Mars this year I realized that I was still losing hair. Both temples were well on the way towards being full NW2 and my frontal hair line showed clear signs of miniaturization. Luckily my crown area had grown back in thanks to the minoxidil, but I knew that clearly my regiment wasn't enough. I decided take one last shot and ordered dutasteride from Inhousepharmacy. Since mid Mars I've taken 0,5 mg dutasteride every other day and continued taking finasteride every day (even on the days on which I take finasteride). A bit overexaggerated, I know, but just to be 100 % safe in case the dutasteride wasn't legit I didn't want to risk halving my finasteride dose. Luckily I haven't experienced any sides at all.
One month in, mid April, I started seeing some very thin vellus hairs along my hair line and especially one of the temples. This ought to have been a bit too early for dutasteride to work its wonders, so perhaps finasteride has had some effect after all. More and more vellus hairs have started showing up, boosting my hopes that perhaps I'll see some actual regrowth.
Here's the problem: These vellus hairs thickened up a bit the first month, but have since shown no change whatsoever. At the moment they are somewhere in the middle between vellus and terminal. There are neither enough of them to offer satisfying coverage, nor are they thick enough. What's more, it seems like the terminal hairs behind the already thinning areas are continuing to miniaturize, although they too seem to stop somewhere between vellus and terminal (i.e. in a miniaturized state). Furthermore, not all remain this way. Instead, some fall off, leaving a lower density.
Long story short: If it continues like this I'll have a NW1,5 hairline, but all my hairs will be miniaturized and have too little density to offer any satisfying coverage. I know this isn't the worst case scenario, but it's not very fun either. Does anyone have any advice?
