Getting rid of ACNE

Hey guys,

Avodart has done wonders on clearing up my skin--

But there are still some remnants of acne left on my shoulders and back.

It's not as bad as it used to be, but I just need something to clear it up. It's embarassing, to say the least.

I used Adoxa for many months when I was in high school, although it offered little success.

I then graduated to Minocycline 100mg 2x Daily... which killed my liver, and delivered poor results, too. This is supposedly the "atomic bomb" of antibiotics.

I've used Neautrogene Body Scrub, and it clears up some of the acne, but leaves nasty red marks behind.

My cousins both have the same acne problems, used Accutane, and have GREAT looking skin. Absolutely great. It cleared them up 100%...

I'm scared to use Accutane, because as we all know, hairloss will increase while using it.

Are there are suggestions from anybody here?

A few tips that have helped me with the acne.

Shower or bathe twice a day. Once use soap, second time just rinse, maybe before bed.

Use an exfoliating wash cloth. I prefer the gloves you can find in discount stores.

Shave with very high quality razors and shaving gel.

Exercise. I have found that if I sweat a lot and then clean off, I get less pimples.

Doing those things has helped me but if you already do that stuff, sorry.

Take care,
Joe.

Easy.

2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide twice a day.

Ive treated acne for a while now, and nothing works as well as that. The only concern is it dries out your skin a bit, and can cause redness temporarily, however since it's on your back and not your face these effects wont be noticeable and you can get past them easily.

Im sure this will work :)

Great. Where can I get this? Is there a prescription required?

Not a problem.

I used Minocycline for 1 1/2 years, then I was on Doxycycline for a while. I just have mild acne on my face that isn't bad, just liked to keep in check.

I quit the treatments about 3 months ago as I was sick of taking Antibiotics every single day. I continue to used my prescription benzoyl peroxide wash, differen gel and another topical called Rosula. My face actually is much clearer without the antibiotics, even with using minoxidil & spironolactone!

Sadly, the one place I did notice increased acne was my shoulders & back, bummer, but I'm glad to be off antibiotics.

Make sure you follow the instructions to a T with the BP Gel. You will more than likely experience discomfort for the first while if you're using it on your face, but stick with it, you'll be happy you did. Also, it takes about 28 days for your skin to regenerate & exfoliate, so treatments that you are using may not show results until about a month, but we're on a male pattern baldness forum, we're used to waiting :p.

I'm thinking about using the tough regimen for back acne-- the one with Alpha hydoxy and bp.

It's strange. I have acne nowhere else on my body except for some on the shoulders and back, and right now it's very little since taking my dutasteride.

Should I expect this topical regimen to completely clear me up?

Either way, I'm glad you showed me this website. It's got tons of information, testimonials, etc. etc.

To my knowledge, nothing stands a greater chance of doing so :)

Accutane might of course, but results differ from person to person - for some, acne just comes back later. All this with the added side effects (too many to list, but hair loss definately being one of them) makes it only an option for severe acne.

Oral antibiotics would, they cleared me up when i took them for about a year. However long term use is not recommended, antibiotics take out all your internal flora, messing up the balance. I first noticed my hair thinning after taking antibiotics, and believe it gave me biotin defficiency. I had three symptoms of this, hair loss being only one, and long term use of antibiotics are commonly responsible for this defficiency so im in no doubt.

CJ if you're using antibiotics, i'd recommend you take some acidopholus (helps keep your internal flora in balance - I think, better check this out) and a biotin supplement.

Oops, misread your post there cj.

Im glad to hear you are off the antibiotics! Good stuff, it's really an extreme measure to go to just to treat acne. People use them to fight off sickness and infection, and they still get side effects. Every day for acne is so stupid, i regret it very much.

I've questioned whether or not this was the catalyst to my early onset of male pattern baldness. My hair loss coencides with my Antibiotic use...so I'm not sure.

For about the last year I've been taking Probiotic supplements, so I hear you on the internal flora stuff :).

Dude I would highly reccomend Accutane. I took it 6 mounths ago and I am a much happier person. My acne is completely gone and I didnt lose any (more) hair while taking it. I know at least 5 friends that have also taken it and we all have perfect skin.
