Do you guys think it's a bad idea to go that heavy at my age?

I'm currently on Rogaine and finasteride and I don't think I've lost much hair last couple years. I have 2 balding patches in my crown and moderate thinning in the very front. other portions of my hair are still pretty thick

if I do 3500 grafts to fix the crown and front, does that put me in a bad situation if I want to get more work done in future? I have good donor area

I just started finnasteride 2 months ago. Before that I was maintaining with only Rogaine

Zero issues with this, especially at your age and considering you're on meds, finasteride being key. I've had 3000 at 22 and will have done 5500 a year later in a few months. Just make sure you look into quality surgeons, Hasson/Wong, Erdogan, Konior, Rahal etc.

here's the real big question mark

What are the chances the meds maintain my current hair for say another 30 years? I don't want to get the transplant done and then I have an island of hair around balding patches

I don't think I've lost any hair last couple years but honestly I can't be 100% sure. At worst, it has been very mild thinning since I've been on meds

If I get 3000 now, would I have enough to do 5000-6000 more when I'm 50 or 60 year old?

If you're seriously worrying about having to get a second or third transplant over the next 30 years then maybe it isn't for you, or it isn't important enough to worry about for you in the short term. In my case that absolutely wasn't an issue.

You will certainly have at least 5000-6000 grafts unless you had hairloss in the donor unless you have a norwood 7 emerging. This is the lower end of what the vast majority of surgeons will concede the average patient has available, via FUE alone.

Finasteride hasn't been around for 30 years and most of the studies on it only go up to a decade, but there's around an 85% chance you'll maintain for at least that long on it according to that data, and anecdotally some have been on it with huge success for much longer than that. Your hairloss also doesn't sound particularly aggressive considering you were maintaining on minoxidil.

99% of surgeons will tell you that you're an ideal candidate, which you sound to be (depending somewhat on your donor and final hairloss pattern is).

But yes, don't go into it thinking its a one and done, even if there's a 95% chance you won't need another procedure if you're absolutely not willing to go back for another transplant in the future out of financial or other reasons then you don't care enough to warrant having surgery.

I'm okay with doing maybe 1 or 2 more procedures after this but I just don't want to end up having a rats nest of solid hair around a bunch of balding patches
