Get to know all about the Big3

I have been searching for a thread about the Big3, but I can't find one. So I figured I would make this one, so we can gather all the info here.

Big3 = Nizoral, finasteride/propecia and minoxidil

So I will start with some questions:

- How much do you take/use the 3 products?
- If you start with minoxidil and you get some new hair, can you stop and only use finasteride?

I am sorry, if there is a thread like this, I am new to the forum.

(1) Propecia - daily 1mg forever or until you quit.

(2) Minoxidil - morning and night.

(3) Nizoral - some people swear to use this every night. Bottle states for the first two weeks and then twice a week. Does'nt really make a major difference.

If you start and quit with minoxidil - finasteride will not keep the hair. These hair follicles will just fall out as norma.

(1) should be your first port of call. However, some people here will say it is so bad that your penis may turn colour. This is a lie. I have been on this for 9 years now and it works with no side effects.

Thanks for the answer!

I was told to only take 0,25 finasteride a day and I have been doing this for a mouth now. Should I increase the amount?

The initial experiment quoted that 1mg was the optimal concentration for finasteride for male pattern baldness.

The paper did not mention the percentage of people who worked well with 0.25mg. However, some people responded well with this amount. Others, responded with 0.5mg and 0.75mg and so on.

Therefore, 1mg should be your first port of call and then if you get side effects, I suggest you to quit the drug completely. Some people lower the concentration to stay away from side effects. But this is nonsense.

You either get side effects or you don't. If you do, quit completely. Your hormonal levels will get back to sync roughly in 2 months. Sperm levels and concentration if affected, return in 6 months. Papers are out there to warrant this on pubmed.

Anyway, the choice is yours. I still recommend people should buy the propecia form of merck. You just don't know what rubbish is put in the generic form.

Until roughly 2013, finasteride for male pattern baldness will be free to go generic officially. So no harm in buying the FDA approved form until then.

Well then I guess I will try 1 mg and see if I get any sides, if not I will continue for some time, and go down to ,5 mg or ,25.

Isn't that what people normally do?

My honest opinion. Does'nt make a difference at all.

People usually stay on 1mg. There's no reason to go down unless you start getting side effects.

Ok, I think I will go up to 1 mg then, and go down after some time. I was just told by my doctor, to cut the pill into 4 pieces. Don't understand why then.

coulda been any one of a couple of things. my GP clearly knew nothing at all about finasteride aside from what it was approved to do, and gave me a load of useless advice and stuff on it which didnt make any sense at all. so your Doctor could just have read the box and seen that .25 was the minimum recommended dosage or something.

on the other hand, he could be worried that youll quit if you experience a day of sides or something and maybe he wants you to keep at it and give it a proper chance?

i dunno, but id say you should probably start with a gram and gauge your response to it from there.

Lowering the finasteride dose won't help. You need an aromatase inhibitor to take care of side effects.
