Genetics of Hairloss

I'm a little confused, I'm South Asian and my family tends to have finer hair than average. I'm 22 my brother is 26, he doesn't seem to have any thinning and I seem to have some diffuse thinning. So my first question is if my brother is older, showing no signs of hairloss how likely is it that I will how hair loss? Is it common for brothers to show this pattern?

I also seem to have Scalp folliculitis (self-diagnosed, getting checked by doctor next week). Over that last 9 months I've noticed more and more 'scalp acne' which seemed to go hand in hand with my thinning and some shedding, is this a coincidence or could they be related?

Any input appreciated, thanks guys.

Scalp irratation/inflimation is deffenaintly a telltale sign of male pattern baldness.

About the liklihood of following your brother, i think you know nobody can tell you an answer, genetics are random.

Diffuse thinners respond well to propecia, and your inflimation could be treated with Nizoral which you would find beneficial.

My advice is don't assume that because your older brother has no hairloss, that you will be the same...

I'm 24 with a receding hairline fast approaching a NW3, my older brother however at 30 has very little or no recession at all! He has taken my mother's hair genes, while I have taken my father's unfortunately!

When I was around 18-20 I used to try and kid myself that maybe the early recession I had was just me following my mother's side and that my hairline was going to be the same as my bro's. I was most definitely in denial about it and found the whole thing extremely embarressing, as any teen would!

However once it got to NW2 and beyond at 21, I realised that there was no point in deluding myself anymore and that my hairline had just been unlucky with regards to the family gene pool. It's seems ridiculous that I so much less hair than my brother who's 6 years older, but that's the reality.

Anyway! Bottom line is dude, if you suspect diffuse hair get on the meds right now and don't be like me, trying to kid yourself that you're gonna turn out like your older bro, start the treatment at your early stage and you have a very high chance regaining ALL the hair that you've lost.

Thanks, I suspect you're right, what's annoying is my Mum thinking it's all in my head, then she kind of agrees, blames it on my high protein diet and using hair styling products in the past AND insists I use non-proven home remedies like castor oil and almond oil, nightly lol.

Going to get on Minoxidil soon.
