Hi,
I know this has probably been discussed before, but I'll post the question anyway -- do you think hair loss in general comes from the mother's side? (I'm aware of the genetic data on the AR gene which is X-linked.) The only man in my family who had hair was my maternal grandfather. My dad, paternal uncle and paternal grandfather, maternal uncles, etc. were all bald or thinning. I have my dad's hair color but seem to have mom's dad's hair type (baby fine, limp with no volume) though it's not thinning as far as I can tell. I'm 32.

Well, problem is I can't tell -- if it's just fine/low density or if there's less than before.

If you are not sure if your hair is thinning or not, keep an eye on your hair for the next 6 months and take pictures every month and compare them after 6 months. Good luck!

I wish it did, then I would be saved, but no it's completely random which parent's hair genes you inherit. I inherited my father's nw7 family genes, while my older brother who is your age on the otherhand, seems to have inherited my mother's nw1 family genes and has no hairloss whatsoever... see what I mean? It's totally random and quite often very unfair, one brother gets it, the other doesn't.

If you still haven't got at 32, then for fek sake go and enjoy your life man, lol, nothing to worry about.

I'll try and post some pics. I have baby fine hair, so much so that it's like cobweb. I accidentally got my head shaved by a moronic hairdresser (turned away from the mirror so I couldn't see till it was too late) and seeing it afterward sent me into a nervous tailspin as it looked tremendously thin. It's grown back now but now I notice just how fine it is and can't tell if it's thinning or just naturally *thin*. (Front hairline with slight widow's peak is completely intact and has stayed the same since I was a little kid). I cannot gel or spike my hair because it is too wispy and limp to actually hold up. I'm willing to accept it if it's so, as I come from a long line of extensively bald men. (Mom's dad was the only one who kept his hair, which BTW was exactly like mine, texture wise, those his was black and mine is very very light brown.)
