generic vs. brand name

Just wondering what the prevailing opinion is on the efficacy of a brand name drug like proscar vs. a generic but much less expensive drug like fincar. Or is it more of a safety issue. If it's the same drug, then it seems like the generic would be the better way to go, but I just wanted to know what the wisdom of experience has to say about this.

I use brand name Propecia and Rogaine.
But only because both taste better than their generic counterparts.
