generic propecia and prescription questions

I'm trying to find a cheaper way to get Propecia/Finasteride.

I've been on Propecia for 5 months now as prescribed by my dermatologist. Naturally, the Propecia is costing me about $75 a month and I'm trying to find a cheaper solution.

I talked to my dermatologist about the generic Finasteride and he said to try and discuss it with a pharmacist.

So I talked with a pharmacist today at Walgreens. They have 5mg Finasteride, but they told me they can't really divide it into 5ths, and that I'd need a different prescription to get it anyways.

I don't how to proceed from here really. I don't really trust online pharmacy stuff too much. However, I need to get this stuff a lot more cheaply. What should I do from here and who should I talk to? Should I go back to my dermatologist or a different type of doctor? I'm sorry for my ignorance; I'm new to this kind of thing.

call your doctor. He/She can switch the prescription with the pharmacy over the phone.

Okay then. What about cutting the 5mg Finasteride down into 1mg pieces? Is it something I can do myself. Can I cut into 4 pieces? It's a rather small pill.
