Hey all...obv new to the board, just looking for some general advice and feedback on my situation.

I've noticed some (what I think) major thinning in the vertex and crown areas of my head..been told by a few friends it's getting pretty obvious now and I'm looking to do something about it. I have an appointment with my doctor later this week...and obviously I will be asking his opinion, but I would like to go in there with some idea of what I should be doing for it. Also feedback on how severe my case is already.

I've picked up Nizoral shampoo today and plan on using tonight....is the over the counter one what I should be using...or should I shoot for a prescription kind.....propecia and shampoo?....or all three including rogaine foam. Someone Anyone help lol.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry not the best pics.

Yeah I need to try and get some more pics with the digital camera as opposed to the phone camera, just hard to ask someone "hey can you try and take some good pics of my balding areas so I can upload them to the forum" lol...so I've been trying to do myself.

i see some thinning in the crown.

i think most people here will say that the best way to go is to get finasteride, provided that you don't have a personal problem with taking a drug. if you cant fork out the money for propecia then go on some generic like finpecia. or get proscar and cut them up (as the dosages for proscar are higher). stay on finasteride for about 6-8 months and see how things are then. if you don't see a big improvement, or if the loss merely stabilizes, then try adding rogaine to the regime.

also, i think most people here use the prescription nizoral. but i personally use the over the counter. i dont think the difference would be THAT huge. use it every other day. good luck

Thank you. Sorry if a dumb question...please bear with me cause I really don't know....what would be my best method of getting the finasteride ....I've read in some other topics that a lot of doctors are reluctant to give a prescription for it? Should I order online? If so does anyone have any reputable sites they wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks so much for the help.

well. its somewhat of a complicated question.

your doctor SHOULD be willing to prescribe it to you. if he/she wont, then you shoud go see a dermatologist, and he/she will very likely give it to you without hesitation.

the problem is, propecia is the only finasteride thats advertised as a hairloss drug. your insurance wont cover it, and you'll have to fork out $60-70 a month for it. theres proscar, which is the same thing as propecia except higher in dosage. a lot of ppl here get their hands on proscar and cut it up. the problem is that proscar is advertised as a drug for the prostate, and thus some doctors don't want to prescribe it for hairloss. in this case, a lot of ppl order it from some of the online pharmacies.

personally, i'm using propecia. but i'm thinking about just getting proscar from an online pharm. i'm just slightly worried that the drug wont be legit. but, as many ppl state here, its usually reliable
