When a doctor performs an FUE or even a strip for that matter, does he ever ask you to shave your head or at least keep the back very short so it is easier for him to extract the follicles?

Yes. The Dr will need to shave your head as close as possible so that the hair can be removed easily. Sadly this is one of the downsides.

I think that ideally, doctors like to shave both donor and recipient.

Personally, I'd probably just bic my whole head if I was doing FUE, to keep the goofiness factor of having shaved spots on my head to a minimum.

is it pretty common for the patients to have thier heads shaved for surgery?
I sure hope not...as I'm having mine peerformed in 4 days and am not ready for a head shaving! :)
