Frightened the beginning of thinning?

I am scared out of my wits that my hair is at the beginning stages of thinning in front. I have always had great hair. I started thinning in the back. I am using rogain. It seems to help.
I pray to God I am not thinning in the front. I don't know I could deal with that. I would have to put my money into a hair transplant no matter what the wife says.
I had an allergic reaction to hair dye the other day. I did it all wrong.
This photo is not very good. It doesn't show what I am worried about. Perhaps it's just the texture of the graying hairs.
By the way, I am 54 so I know I am fortunate.

yea looks like you have some minor recession. With onset at this age it basically guarantees that your case of male pattern baldness is not aggressive though. If you start finasteride, take a standard dose daily it will almost certainly stop your hairloss permanently although it is unlikel to lead to any significant regrowth, it will just stop future loss. I would really recommend finasteride for your pattern and case, minoxidil is ok for you, I would not have recommended it originally but now that you are on it I would just stay on it and add the finasteride

Does rogain work on the front of the head?

rogaine works but it does not work long term, although since your hair loss is very slow at your age it might work long term (decade+) on rogaine alone. finasteride will guarantee maintenance pretty much though. Rogaine works at the front and the back, and so does finasteride. The best way to get hair growth back is to take finasteride and rogaine/minoxidil. It is unlikely you will get significant regrowth though it is usually young people which respond best in terms of regrowth. It will stop you from losing more though and may give you modest regrowth.

My dermatologist didn't want to prescribe me propecia. I will call the office and ask for it again. I hope he does.
I am glad that many people don't have mental side effects.
Here is another question. When is a good time to get a hair transplant? I could live with thinness in the back but not in the front.
