What were the positive or negative results and if it was negative did you ever recover from it?

I seem to be losing more hair everytime I use nizoral and just nizoral alone, no other shampoos do this.....I want to see if anyone else has this problem

Nizoral is a great tool for fighting M.P.B., it blocks D.H.T. and is an anti-inflammatory. The pros are increased hair regrowth obviousley, and the cons are dry scalp and shedding. What you need to do is get extra virgin coconut oil rub into your scalp and leave in for one hour, then rise and wash with nizoral, this reduces dry scalp and shedding for me. If you can't get coconut oil for some reason, extra virgin olive oil works well as well... it's a pre-shampoo conditioner.

Hi Elvis, I also find that when i use Nizoral, I seem to shed more hair comparing to when i use other shampoos. I think this is caused by Nizoral being a more "thick" shampoo that when you apply it to your hair, it has more friction. The hair that is meant to fallout "later" will fallout "now" when you wash your hair with Nizoral.

Re: For everyonr who has had pos or neg results using nizoral

The thing I've noticed with using nizoral over the last couple of months is this strange tingle on my scalp when it's washed in, it actually physcially feels like it is doing something, which I found a bit weird at first but I've got used to it. Almost like a pull of my hair away from the scalp slightly, if that makes any sense to anyone....!?

Re: For everyonr who has had pos or neg results using nizoral

Thanks for your input guys...

The reason why I am so concerned about this is because before, maybe during the 60's-80's head and shoulders was supposed to help the scalp out with dandruff, hair loss etc...but in turn it actually accelerated hair loss.

I don't want to go through the same thing here with nizoral and have people looking back later on saying that nizoral actually screwed up people's hair...

The only thing i can say is to use Nizoral with moderation. Use it only once a week.

Why do you say that? have you had some negative results with nizoral?

Hey guys, I've been using Nizoral for about a month now for about 3 to 4 times a week.

I've noticed the shedding phase where I can see the hair that was to fall out, say in 3 months, is falling out now, at the same time I can see "baby hair" but thicker starting to regrow....I have read that people use Coconut/Almond/Castor oil to help the growth and stopping the loss, now, this may be a dumb question, but....do i buy the "cooking" oils IE Cooking Extra Virgin Coconut Oil? or the massaging oils that are from almond or coconut?

thank you.

I've been using nizoral since February and I have nothing bit positive things to say about it. It does help with hair loss and who ever says it doesn't is simply uninformed. There have been some studies on KETOCONAZOLE I recommend people to read them. I didn't experienced a lot of shedding while using nizoral, maybe a little bit but it stopped after a week or so. Nizoral feel thick but what you should do is use a little bit (small amount) of normal shampoo first, then wash it off and then apply Nizoral. It wont feel that thick and it will spread better. Try to leave it for around 5 min on your scalp and then wash it off.
I also apply conditioner after that so my hair are not that dry. Use nizoral 2-3 times a week and do not overdo it.

I also had a little bit of burning and stinging at the beginning when I started using nizoral but it stopped. So whoever had this side effect it should disappear in a while as your body adjusts to the medication.
hope this helps

Hey elvis,

How long have you been on nizoral? My assumption would be that the shedding will stop... BUT I will say this, when I was using anti-dandruff shampoos - Head and Shoulders/Selsun Blue - I was shedding at least twice the amount of hair as normal. Neither contain Ketac....whatever, but they do contain pyrithone zince, which apparently may slow hair loss as well and the entire time I used them all they did was accelerate my hair loss and that's a FACT. Perhaps nizoral may be a little too harsh for your hair much like the others were for me, but it's hard to be sure. nizoral as you know has been a success for me, but that was always in combination with finasteride. I have no idea what kind of reaction I would have had with nizoral alone.

If you've been using it for a year or so and you're still shedding big time I'd probably wouldn't bother with it unless it's in conjunction with finasteride.

That is a one hundred percent personal opinion though.

I get a few spots in my thinning areas. I don't know if it is related at all.

As far as I know, nizoral is supposed to be anti-inflammatory, so I don't know why I get those spots.

Yeah I can't vouch for Nizoral as I don't use it reguraly anymore. It dried my hair out a lot. Instead I use Revita, which contains the same active ingredient as Nizoral (Ketoconazole). Instead of the 2% that the Nizoral here contains, it only has 1% and many other hair growth stimulators. You can buy Nizoral in a 1% version in many places, unfortuenatly I haven't come across it here.

Whenever I do wash my hair with Nizoral I apply a mixture of Olive oil and Emu oil to my scalp the night before. I then rinse this out for 1 minute with luke-warm water. After that I apply a moderate amount of Nizoral and massage into my scalp for about a minute. I leave it there for 4-5 minutes and rinse it out. Then I apply a conditioner and leave it there for about 5 minutes. It seems to work well this way.

I do notice that my hair generally looks worse when I use Nizoral. It must be due to the drying effects of Ketoconazole. Therefore I tend to use it in moderation.

Yea see then i guess it isn't just me who this happens too.......

I thought that dried out hair actually looks thicker....i dunno, but if someone actually worse hair after nizoral we would've probably heard about it already i guess..
