Okay. So here is my BEFORE and AFTER pic from using FOAM a year. On APR 07 I stopped 4+yrs of propecia and began foam because propecia was causing other known problems for me. Anyway I do not see any results. I feel like it worsened. You decide. This is on FOAM alone, and no other medication. My question is do I keep taking it?

My fears:
- If I stop foam, would I lose what I have?
- If I continue to take it, will I shed what i have left since it does not seem to be working?

The box says you see results in 16 weeks I think, and I have used it much longer.

Have you guys used it for 1 year or so without results or with results or did you stop it and lose what you have? Please share and talk to me. Im confused big time....

Yeah man wow. I have exactly the same dilema with the foam. My results (just like yours) seem very neutral. Based on the pics I would say you have neither lost nor gained. So in a way given that male pattern baldness is progressive its a win for you. But I echo your concerns is it really worth it? Is it REALLY doing anything? Will I lose more if I stop?

These are the questions that worry me also.

Personally if I were you based on those current results I would ditch the foam. It doesnt appear to being doing enough to warrant the price, trouble of application for your level of hairloss. The only other option is smaller doses of finasteride to negate side effects. OR go for a hair transplant to restore your crown.

GOod luck..:)

how aggressive was your hairloss before starting meds? i'd say if that's all the ground you've lost in a year, and after quitting finasteride, you are doing amazingly well. look into hair fibers - nanogen, toppik etc - you've got enough existing hair they'd work well for you. anyway, id say the minoxidil is at least slowing the rate of loss, which is a success. up to you whether it's worth the hassle.

Personally I think your hair looks better.

Man...maintaining is such victory in this game. Realize that.

Cassin the man wants more hair. Whats the point of maintaining what most ordinary people would already consider a big giant bald patch?

If he wants a hair transplant he can do it. He just needs to plan it well and goto a repurable surgeon.

I think if you put in 1500-2000 grafts you would no longer have bald patch :)

getting an hair transplant is not like choosing a new pair of pants. it is a major life changing decision you have to live with until you die. they poke holes in your head surgically implant hairs - it's incredibly invasive and takes months to heal. i'd consider it a last resort. not to mention the best hair transplant candidates are the ones for whom propecia is working, which it is not for the OP

Well his hair is maintaining on foam is it not? Yeah its invasive and takes a LONG time to heal and yield results but its also just his crown. I think a hair transplant is more invasive for the hairline as thats the part people really see.

Dude thats fine...but...his dr will still tell him to use treatments to stop further loss. Because his hair will still fall out around a nice patch of filled in hair then he will walk around with a yamaka.

Well yeah but hasnt he already proved he can maintain with foam alone? After one year there is no change? So it should be now safe to proceed with a hair transplant. But he really needs to be on finasteride.

Ok finasteride was doing nothing for me. In apr 07, you can see how thin i was. And finasteride was causing all these hormone problems for me..

i guess my question is this- has anyone gone on foam like i have for a year without results and dropped it? and then months later was your hair the same or did you lose it more?

because rogaine says you can see results in 12 weeks, and if 1 year goes by, just stop using it.. im sure during their lengthy test periods, they tried people over a year to see if longer use can help.. i guess i 6 months if you dont see results, chances are it wont work for you.... i definitly dont want it to continue shedding for me..

so, has anyone stopped it after a year of no results and have it get worse or remain same?

Roagine can take much longer than 12 weeks to yield results. I didnt see the full effect of rogaine foam on my hairline or crown for a full 12 months. I felt like quiting many times ad the sheds were awful and the foam made my hair look like crap, but the benefits are there if you're patient enough.

I read your post. But yes its a difficult one. Ive flirted with stopping as well due to less than spectacular results. But perhaps the Rogaine has prevented further loss? Or maybe it would just be the same. Personally I dont think its worth the risk hence why im yet to stop applying 2 times a day religiously to my crown and hairline.
