Hi,

I am a 31 year old male who has miniaturization at the front of my hairline. It's still thick and can't normally be noticed. It's got a lot worse over the past 4 weeks and my hair at the front looks thinner, weak and limp. You can see a slight bald patch now :(

My hair loss seems to have been aggravated by fluoxetine (Prozac) at 20mg, which I have taken for the last 4 weeks. I have never been on an anti-depressant before or any mental health medication. Based on my reading, a reduction in sex drive is a normal side effect. However, I have had the opposite: a great increase in libido (which has reduced somewhat over the past few days, so perhaps it is a temporary side effect) and feeling hypersexual. Maybe this is why my hair loss has increased? I've also noticed that my head is ithy at times. Does this indicate DHT under the scalp? Does anybody know of the science about the effect of SSRIs on testosterone and DHT? I have not managed to find anything online. The only material I've found about hair loss relates to Telogen Effluvium and not male pattern baldness. In Telogen Effluvium, it seems like the hair would grow back but my loss seems to be male pattern baldness.

I can come off of it but my doctor is likely to suggest another SSRI, like Zoloft. Does anyone know if these drugs interfere with preventing hair loss or whether I've just had an odd reaction?

Thanks for any help.

Mike
