Finasteride - When To Know If Its Working, And Does It Make Seb Derm Worse?

For background, several months ago, I started this thread:

https://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/threads/will-minoxidil-help-an-nw2-hairline.104837/

- I have had receded NW2 for some time (since early 20s, I'm now mid 30s). I didn't realize it until looking at old photos. It seemed pretty stable, but it has gotten worse lately.
- I also have had seb derm on and off for two years. I considered minoxidil for the hairline, but figured it didn't make sense with the seb derm, as people say it can irritate.
- After seeing two dermatologists, I really haven't gotten much help with the seb derm. Nizoral helps...until it doesn't. It comes and goes.
- In asking about the receded hairline, one derm suggested propecia. She pointed out I was diffuse thinning on the top, too. That was news to me! I spent so much time looking at my temples I never noticed what a beating the area around my whorl has taken. Nobody in my family (considering 8 men in 3 generations) has ever lost any hair on the top. Receded hairlines in the front? Yes, in some. But thinning on top, no. Could the hair loss on the top be related to the Seb Derm? My dermatologist said no, rather plainly. But quite frankly, neither derm was particularly impressive when it came to hair loss - and I have found more thoughtful advice on these forums.
- I hope that's right that SD can't cause hair loss, because now I'm on finasteride to deal with the male pattern baldness. I started about two months ago, and my hair is in rough shape. The seb derm is back, my hair is really thinning at the whorl (picture attached, this was actually before my recent seb derm flare up, so it's actually worse now). When I shower, I end up with a handful of hairs of all sizes. When my hair is wet, it looks way thinner then it used to, especially in the crown. And I have no idea if its from male pattern baldness, Seb Derm, an expected finasteride shed or stress (in full disclosure, I have some anxiety & depression that's been bad the last year or so...so there's that) or some combination of all of the above.

So, a few questions for anybody on finasteride, especially anybody that might've had seb derm:

1 - Would finasteride make SD worse, for any reason?
2 - Is a shed two months into finasteride expected?
3 - How will I even know if the finasteride is working...will new hair grow back, or will I just maintain?
4 - When should I look for results from finasteride?

TL;DR: I'm more clearly losing hair now, including on the crown, and have no idea if it's male pattern baldness, Seb Derm, finasteride, or other factors. How can I differentiate these, and when will I know if finasteride is working?

On the plus side, two months in, I have not had any side effects of finasteride.

Thanks for any advice...
