finasteride regrowth at 5 months all over but now loosing hairline?!

Hey there, I have been an active reader of this forum for a while now, this is my first post as i have a question regarding my experience with finasteride, i'm 27 and have been a defuse thinner for about 4'-5 years, i started finasteride 5 months ago, and initially i was shedding all over at month 3 but mostly at the crown, thanks to the support of reading peoples post i stuck at it and have been really surprised with the results in the crown area an generally all over.

However i have realised now that my hair line, and frontal area is loosing density and the hair is turning from a dark brown to a light brown colour, i realise i should wait the full year to see results, but after being so happy with the fact that i have been a 'responder" to finasteride, i cant understand why now i am loosing my hair at the front, its gotten worse since taking finasteride, has anyone else exerienced this, if i have shed and recovered and my hair is better all over then why now is the only part of my hair that was inittially thick (Frontal Area) now thinning noticably?

Im confused, can someone tell me what would be happening, and is it normal to shed recover and then shed only at the front? Its worse now than when i first stated finasteride, i thought if i was a responder it would work all over my head, can i expect to re grow the frontal hair?

I am also using nizoral shampoo and use it 3 times a week for last 2 months, alternating with NIOXON other days.

The front is much much more sensitive to DHT. That is why I choose to use spironolactone on the hairline and plan on using it for as long as possible. I might add something stronger in the future if I am sure it is safe and effective.

Thanks for the reply, i was just under the general concecous that i would atleast maintain my hair line, frontal area with finasteride if its worked elsewhere in a short amount of time.

What does spirolactone achieve? I dont know much about it.

It is a topical antiandrogen. I use it with finasteride to make sure I am doing as much for my hair line as I can. I really can't afford to lose any more of it. It would look terrible. Right now it's really improving. I only use spironolactone once per day in the morning and then minoxidil at night.


I think the odds of someone maintaining/regrowing hairline is probably better with both than one. Finasteride does NOT block all dht.

I was really surprised how much i thickened up in other areas, i.e crown middle, the hairline did seem to be benifiting as well, its only the last 2 weeks that i have noticed a difference, would it be a sign that its reacting to the finasteride, or would you expect that if it was going to react to the finasteride it would have done so with the rest of the hair, for example all at the same time.

I looked up spironolactone, it says it can enlarge ur breast tissue as a male, and dr's are relectant to give it out, i have minoxidil in the cubbard but have never wanted to use it due to some of the bad strories i have read on here, should i stick to the finasteride for a while longer, its hard to tell what is going on with my hair at the moment it seems like its changing all the time. :dunno:

Topical spironolactone won't give you sides. You probably looked up oral spironolactone. It is an antiandrogen and can't be taken orally by males.


Uhm, stick with finasteride for as long as your hair means anything to you.
