finasteride questions

Hi everyone, newbie here! So I'm considering taking the plunge and going on finasteride in addition with minoxidil and nizoral, but just not sure what the common consensus is on how much, how often and what kind. Is Propecia the best and only proven brand? Or are there generics that are just as good, cheaper with possibly less side effects? If so which ones and where do you get it? I've also read about people using a pill cutter to cut finasteride pills into 1/4's and taking a few times a week... Is this practice just as effective?
