Hey everyone, I've been experiencing hair loss since my teens and up until recently it has been getting progressively worse. You can say I'm a NW2 going on NW2.5 with diffuse male pattern baldness. In a fit of desperation I decided to have my derm prescribe me finasteride and even ordered some fincar from inhousepharmacy.vu prior to that incase my derm denied my prescription. After using generic finasteride 1.25mg EOD for almost a month I noticed immediately thicker hair texture in addition to some unacceptable sides that have forced me to stop further use unfortunately (if anyone needs my finasteride lmk).

We've all heard it a million times and in my case it was no different - I experienced the usual hit in the libido department and no, it wasn't all in my head. I'm 24 right now and have been with the same girl for many years and we have never experienced any signs of me having ED. If anything I suffered from erectile "overfunction".. even the gf will vouch, many times you couldn't get rid of my boner unless you slammed it in a car door.

I also experienced noticeably oiler skin which resulted in severe breakouts.. I've dealt with body and face acne since my teens and have used many acne medications including accutane, so please believe me when I say I would rather go bald than go through that again.. And to help those who may still be struggling with acne, here's what has worked for me:
- first and most importantly was quitting smoking tobacco (depletes zinc and decreases oxygen and blood flow which is vital for healthy skin and hair)
- monitoring and replenishing my vitamin D3 and Zinc blood levels (I was deficient in both of these)
- avoiding consumption of heavy dairy (no milk, cheese, butter, etc. I use almond alternatives)
- and just simply eating healthier (less sugars & grains, more lean meats and vegetables)

I've been off finasteride for over a month now and I feel 99% sure everything has gone back to normal, no more acne & morning wood is back (thank god). As for my hair not all hope is lost, other preventative measures I've been taking everyday are Ketoconazole 1% (Nizoral, RegenPure Dr), Biotin from my multi, and derma rolling. I know this regimen seems like a joke but after I quit smoking two months ago I've noticed definitive regrowth (while off finasteride) on my scalp every week if not everyday. My girlfriend and even my parents have complimented on how much thicker my hair has been getting. My only complaint is my hairline continues to recede which I'll just have to live with because it runs in my family.. and even while on finasteride it showed no signs of slowing down.

Just thought I'd share my story for it has been a mental roller coaster for me these past few months. Hair loss has made me a more vain person and it truly sucks but as my father recently said to me, "You have to go through life with a happy go lucky type of attitude, just keep it neat and don't give a s***." Thanks for reading.

Interesting read, everyone has there own experience with propecia.
Though I would strongly recommend you stop dermarolling, it is a complete waste of time and just plain foolish.

How can you notice thicker hair texture in not even a month? Placebo effect is a powerful thing.

any reason for that dermarolling opinion? do you think the original study from India was bogus? It seems like if it does nothing more than increase absorption of minoxidil, it's potentially useful. And why couldn't mildly upsetting the scalp have some further benefit? It's either going to have an adverse effect (a 'shock loss' from the irritation), no effect, or a slight positive effect. The study seems to point towards the latter. I personally think it has helped my crown when combined with minoxidil.

I would be careful, you should stop talking about derma rolling, or else an admin is going to come and lock the thread. Just an FYI.

How long did you take finasteride? I've been on it about 5-6 weeks and have noticed exactly the opposite of your sides. Sex drive is great, skin has cleared up (and less razor burn), etc. I'm taking .5mg ED. The difference is I'm an avid weightlifter, eat extremely healthy, and take a boatload of supplements every day (including ZMA and D3, among MANY others). I think if you're going to be on finasteride you need to lead a healthy lifestyle and you can NOT have deficiencies.
