Finasteride is in the system for 6 hours, but what about the other 18 hours?

Basically, if someone takes finasteride daily, while the drug is in your system it's blocking dht, but once it's out of the system after 6 hours does it mean it's not fighting dht?

Is dht not being blocked for the other 18 hours?

Well dutasturide is in the system for weeks. And finasteride only 6 hours.

I've always wondered does finasteride work only for 6 hours after taking the pill? What happens to the 18 hours left before the next pill is taken?

Also, if finasteride is out of the system in 6 hours shouldn't the side effects disappear also for 18 hours?

For example, if I'm having major side effects like decreased libido and erection issues. If I take the pill in the morning at 9am, by 4pm it should be out of my system and I should not be effected by the side effects.

I'm just trying to figure out how this works.

No, your body produces 5Ar2-reductase slowly. It doesn't matter how long finasteride is actually in your system, by the time you pop another pill your 5-ar2 reductase has not yet regenerated enough to bind to your testosterone to make DHT.

As others have already told you: after a cell inhibts 5a-reductase type 2 with finasteride, it takes a while for that cell to generate more of the type 2 enzyme, to generate more DHT. It takes a week or two after the last dose of finasteride for DHT levels to "normalize" completely, even though the finasteride is already long-gone by that point.
