Its a long winded article that says nothing more than finasteride lowers your prostate antigen levels that come from your prostate cells. Higher levels = higher cancer chance. So many men see a low number and dont tell the doctor so they think its a normal level and do nothing about it.
Tell your Doctor and adjust the PSA number. If its high after adjustment than maybe you need prostate screening. The worse prostate cancer can easily be many men dont screen for it because they dont tell the doctor they need to raise the PSA number because finasteride is lowering it more than normal. So not finding the cancer early means more aggressive cancer when you do find it.
Finasteride has two big concerns for me because I am wresting with whether to try it or not.
1. Neurosteroid levels, gaba receptors in the brain, impaired neurogenesis cycles. Some pretty serious and complicated processes that no one but god understands right now. Good idea to mess with this? IDK
2. Extra stress on your liver FOREVER. Is 20 years of stressing your liver on metabolizing this drug a good idea? IDK
Propecia has some serious risks to keep some hair on your head. IDK if I might rather go bald.

Thank you for taking the time out to comment. I can't help but want to begin taking finasteride given that I've already purchased it, I just don't want to open up another window of complication if all goes bad. Believe this or not, I called ForHims customer service given that they sent me a double prescription of finasteride. Upon doing so, I expressed that I wrongfully received an additional order. He then told me "no worries, just throw it in the trash...We'll refund you in 3-5 days". We both started laughing after that, I believe he was around my age. Thought you might find that humorous.

A lot of people dont take the decision of taking a drug seriously enough. Especially a life long one like this. Its a little worrying the idea that 5 years from now randomly one day you wake up and notice a nasty side you never had until then. At that point your not only going bald, but now have an expensive health problem on top it! That will really make you depressed!

It all suck b@llz.
All of it.
Going bald and the sheer panic.
The ridicule.
The drugs themselves that are designed to help can actually cause more problems... Every story is different.
If it helps mentally to NOT be losing your hair, then maybe that's good. If it will prevent a destructive life (depression, suicidal thoughts, antisocial tendency) then maybe its worth the risks.
I guess the best we can do is be responsible, know yourself, stay informed, at least have a regiment...
And remember kids, having a hair loss forum be your only source for medical advice is not advised...

You just explained my life; so unfair really. Sort of withdrawn myself from social interactions because of hairloss.

Is the cancer the only side affect your worried about ? I would still recommend trying finasteride because you can always get off it. Chances are your going to take it sooner or later anyways.
Do you ever feel there will be a way out from starting this mediction? I'm referring to something that will up keep the results of finasteride, once you discontinue? Also, I really want to go with Tsuji method someday if it works, how will they know what areas you need hair in, if they couldn't recognize the zones thinning; while you're on finasteride?

I sure hope so. I’m on finasteride but I wish I could get off it . Sadly finasteride is mostly just a med for maintaining, meaning don’t go into it expecting regrowth. I sure hope they develop a med that specifically deals with hair loss without affecting the entire body.

Hmmm. I wonder who that is meant for.

@random phone charger - If you throw away your finasteride please throw them in my trash can so I can take them out.
Everyone's comment on this thread opened my eyes to something I wasn't previously factoring in. The risk seems worth it given that hair loss has basically impaired my quality of living; the risk is my only option. I will take it with caution, just need the right mindset going into it.
