So I'm seeing my derm next week and I'm
Going to beg and plead him to get me a prescription for finasteride. My concern is that last time I went he refused to and said it's expensive and that my insurance would not cover it and that it has to many health risks. And suggested rogaine for the corners of my hairline. How could I convince my derm to get me on finasteride?

My Doctor said the same thing, but not about the health risks. If my current doctor refuses to renew my perscription, I will call other doctors in advance and ask if they prescribe finasteride before wasting my time with them.

I don't get these doctors sometimes... Finasteride is dirt cheap when you buy the generic 5mg and split the pills. I paid $17 -- WITHOUT insurance mind you -- for a supply that will last me longer than a year. I'm betting some of these doctors have paid more for a lap dance. Lucky for me, the first derm I saw was a woman whose husband had been suffering from thinning hair for years, and she knew the emotional and mental toll that hair loss can take on a man. She wrote me a script within 5 minutes. Her only caveat was that I get blood work done to make sure everything was running right under the hood. Other than slightly elevated T4 levels, she said I was fine and had my prescription filled. The whole process took about a week. Totally worth it to save my hair from going extinct.
