Hey everyone,
I first noticed my hair falling out at around 20. Naturally, I freaked out, Googled, and found you guys. :) Since then I've been a pretty aggressive lurker and never even registered. Well now I'm back, and I have a dilemma I would love help with.
I started 1.25mg finasteride when I noticed I was losing my hair (around the crown). The dermatologist I went to figured that by the time I was 25 I would be almost completely bald; which I assume means it was fairly aggressive. I saw great gains, I think, from the two years I was on finasteride. But, I think I saw a lot of studies that showed that finasteride would plateau at the 2 year mark and then gradually decline in effectiveness. Being ever proactive, I decided to switch to dutasteride at the two year mark (and stop taking finasteride).
Now it's been two years since I've been on dutasteride. I started off taking it every other day but, for the last six months or so, I've been taking it M-W-F to make it easier on myself. My hair is holding up really nicely. Unless you're behind me, staring at it, or I'm under bright light, you can't tell. But I've gained quite a bit of weight.
So here are my questions: had I remained on finasteride, would I have likely seen my hair quality continue to improve or was I right about finasteride tapering off around the second year? How likely is my weight gain a result of the dutasteride? And the million dollar question, can I return to finasteride without losing everything I've gained in the past two years and would I then lose weight?
Thank you guys so much in advance! I owe every hair on my head to you guys. :woot:
(I don't suppose I can cross-post this in finasteride, can I?)

Someone from this board PM'd me to try Diindolylmethane. Has anyone here had much experience with it? How soon after taking it do you start dropping the weight (assuming you gained it as a side)? And does it have any sides I should worry about? Thanks.

Got to say I'd never heard of Diindolylmethane - info. gleaned from companies selling it in tablet form tells me it's a natural phytonutrient found in cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc) that supposedly has a beneficial impact on our hormonal balance. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't; the Avodart forum probably isn't the best place to find out: you may have noticed it's a bit on the quiet side round here...

As for your weight gain: I'd go with exercise and a modified diet first, a fairly modest change in these can work wonders over time and must be preferable to popping any more pills.
