I'm just starting out and my male pattern baldness hair loss at the moment is pretty normal for my age (36). I can live with it but am trying to do something. My main priority is to avoid the common side effects of finasteride such as reduced libido, acne and 'mind fog' so as such i'm taking a small dosage, such as 1/4 Proscar every 2 or 3 days. I'm still trying to decide how often.

My main question for now - is it 'ok' to take finasteride only once every 3 days? By 'ok' I don't mean ideal, but will that be adequate for maintaining a regular and even dosage.

Thanks in advance for any on-topic replies.

if your male pattern baldness isnt that bad why're you planning on taking finasteride to begin with. why not maintain with some topical. minoxidil ?..

i dont get why everybody on these forums is just so ready to take oral medication when their hairloss isnt even noticeable? finasteride is powerful stuff, and need i stress over'n over that the stats provided by merck about the sides are BULLSHIT? like Dr Lee said on hairlosshelp even, according to him the the actual stats are probably 5 - 6 times as much. But then again you have to allow for the huge possibility still that you wont end up with sides.you might be lucky.

try a topical minoxidil, with nizoral and revivogen as the shampoos. add a multi vitamin.

and if you still wanna take finasteride, start off with a 0.625 mg dosage.. which i think is just as effective as a 1mg dose except you should be able to avoid sides. *shrugs..its relative.

try 1/8 proscar.. as a last resort...i dont belive finasteride every three days would be much effective... btw..this one guy, socks had great results from taking half a proscar every three days...which um..is around 0.8 mg?..

1. I take propecia every other day and sometimes slip and take it every three days. It seems to be maintaining my hair.

2. minoxidil is a bad idea if you just want to maintain and maybe regrow slightly. It is a pain to deal with and you have to use it consistently.

3. Socks never had hair loss.
