I still have a bunch of facial hair but it takes longer to grow in and not as thick.

Most of mine hasn't even started growing yet lol. Which is why I asked, isn't DHT important in the development of facial hair?

Yeah it'll kill a lot of your facial hair growth, in terms of density, regrowth rate, and overall new growth. If it's important to you that you have a beard, I'd hold off on the finasteride.

Speaking from my experience, within the first month my regrowth rate more than halved, along with density. After getting off finasteride it never really restored itself either, although it did improve. Although new hairs did start coming in again, the health of those hairs was/is pretty pathetic.

Since I was 18 I've had to shave every day or two or I start looking a bit rough. In the past year I've had to shave every day, regardless. My density is enough that finasteride probably won't hurt it. Heck, if its regrowth rate was halved I'd be a-ok with that.

If I could put a percentage on how much facial hair I can grow compared to how much I should be able to (being 21 and all) I'd say it's about 20-30%...

finasteride's done nothing for the rapid facial hair growth that I've always had. It's done nothing for my scalp hair either, but should it always have some affect on the facial hair, regardless of scalp?

Interesting,I have been on finasteride for 5 months and I have always had really dense coverage since I was 17-18.When I got to 20,it was so thick that I had more facial hair than anybody of my age around me[I even had some growing in the upper cheeks].Even if I had a close shave in the morning,by afternoon or evening I had that 5'o clock shadow thing going on.I hated to shave everyday.I love my goatee though.

The last couple of months,I have noticed that a clean shave lasts much longer and I can still look clean and presentable if I go without shaving for two days.I tried growing the beard again and the density & hair condition seems to be pretty much the same.

Final Verdict-If you have the genes to develop a full thick beard, you would even if you take finasteride. If the males in your family cant grow proper beards and have a face that is soft as a baby's bottom[many young chicks dig this],you most likely wouldn't.finasteride might slow down the beard growth rate for some....is all.

Perhaps, although I think it has more to do with your level of development, as compared to when you start finasteride. If your beard is already developed, there will be less of a difference, but if your beard is in the stages of it's development, it will have a more dramatic effect.

Speaking for me, genetically the men in my family have hair on their face, not on their head. I seem to have the same genetics, and my beard seemed to be going in that direction as well, with a very full beard developing. Post finasteride the health of the hair even in the areas which were already well underway changed.
Obviously this in my opinion has to do with me beginning finasteride at 16, instead of waiting until secondary sexual characteristics had completed developing.

Argh but I can't wait, I'll have no hair left at all :(

Edit: Never mind I just looked at the side effect forum and now I'm too scared to try it again :(

16 is too early....minoxidil would have been a sensible option for you back then. You should take finasteride only after you turn 18.

BornIn89-Some people are allergic to wheat.Everything on our planet has its own share of side effects but in actuality only a tiny percent experience side effects due to finasteride. If you go into taking something believing you will experience side effects, then it will create a placebo.
